SHARON FACKLER Area students graduate from Goshen College Three Syracuse area students were among the 242 seniors who participated in the 79th commencement exercises at Goshen College on April 17. The Syracuse graduates are as follows: Robin R Boyer, a 1972 graduate of Goshen High School, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Boyer, Jr., of 112 W Long Drive, Syracuse. major in elementary education. Donna Sheline. a 1973 graduate of Fairfield High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Sheline of 72019 CR 43 Syracuse. She has been awarded a bachelor of arts degree with a major in home economics. The graduating class of 1977 represented 20 states and seven foreign countries. Senator Mark O. Hatfield of Oregon was commencement speaker. Pomona Grange enjoys pot-luck St-Mar-Pomona Grange 56 met at New Tamerack Grange Hall cn Thursday, Evening. April 21, for a pot-luck supper. I Master Vera Thompson presided over the business session Donations were given to the Jesse Newsman Memorial Fund and to the Youth Foundation Group. Activity reports were heard from Bremen, Waubee and New Tamerack Granges Women’s activity chairman I Esbelle Oakley and legislative chairman Otho Bon Durant reported. Lecturer Ruth Miller said Grange week will be from April 24 through April 30 A number of poems and songs centered on the Easter theme were used in the program. The next meeting will be May 15 and will be “Go to Church Sunday” at the Grace United Methodist Church in Bremen The group will meet at the church at 9:30 a.m. and go to an area restaurant for dinner They will spend? the afternoon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Oakley at Osceola where refreshments will be served by members of the Waubee grange
Bethany Club has pot luck Members of the Bethany Home Extension Club met at Sunnyside Park in New Paris on Thursday, April 14, with Mrs. Herbert Blue and Mrs. Artic Mock as hostesses. A carry-in dinner was held at the noon hour. Mrs. Kenneth Hullinger gave the table grace. Mrs. James Kitson presided during the business meeting. The song of the month. “Tiptoe Through the Tulips" was sung by the group. Mrs. Darrell Urnbower accompanied at the piano. Mrs. Um bower also gave the meditations for the day from the book of Isaiah. A total of 18 members answered roll call by giving a hint on window washing. Mrs. Zorah Luke was a guest and became a member of the club. Mrs. Floyd Berkey gave the garden lesson, stating it is time to plant gardens. Mrs. Wayne Weybright gave the citizenship lesson on the Land of Goshen, including the first courthouse built there. Mrs. Ellis Eby gave the lesson an skin care and grooming. She stated coco butter is beneficial to leg and foot care. Mrs. Lamar Leatherman was chairwoman for the motherdaughter banquet will be held Thursday. April 28. at 6:30 p.m. in the Union Center Church The home econ. conference will be held June 8-10 at Purdue. Achievement day will be May 2 in the City Church of the Brethren in Goshen. Mr and Mrs. Ellis Eby were honored for they: 60th anniversary which was on Easter Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Leatherman were also honored for their April 13 anniversary. The next meeting will be held at Sunnyside Park on May 12. Mrs. Harry D. Doty entertained for CRC The Columbian Reading Circle of Milford met in the home of Mrs. Harry Dale Doty, Monday night. During the business meeting plans were finalized for the club’s annual spring party. This will be held on May 9 in the United Methodist Church and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Members will receive their new program books at this time. Mrs. Elizabeth Tobin was in charge of the program for the evening. She gave a review of the book, “Magic of Findhorn” by Paul Hawkins. Findhorn is a small town in northern Scotland that has gained fame due to the production of flowers, and vegetables of unusual size and - properties in an “unfriendly" climate At the close of the evening, the hostess served refreshments to the members and a gpest. A demonstration on dried flowers was given by Lorraine Yoder of Louisville', Ohio. Jo Anna Owens and Mary Kay Ridings served as cohostesses. Ebenezer Ladies Aid elects officers Election of officers was held at the meeting of the Ebenezer Ladies’ Aid Syracuse, on Thursday. April 21, in the United Methodist Church. Cromwell. Miller The hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. Gladys Morris and Mrs. Wilma Beck. A total of 17 members and three guests attended. The guests included Mrs. Mignery, Mrs. Emma Sauder and Mrs. Flora Buffenbarger. Devotions were read by Mrs. Morris and Mrs. Beck. Mrs. Ruth Smith and Mrs. Fern Werick also sang a song accompanied by Mabelle Snyder. Refreshments were served at the close of the meeting. The next meeting will be in May in the home of Mrs. Ruth Smith. Twilighters Bunco Club meeting Members of the Twilighters Bunco club at Syracuse met last Wednesday evening in the Hunnicutt Grove home of Mrs. ; James Mench with Mrs. Eugene Henning assisting. Audubon Society to explore Laketon Bog The monthly field trip of the Tippecanoe Audubon Society will be held Sunday, May 1. The trip will be to explore Laketon Bog in Wabash County. The area is rich in unusual wildflowers and plants and is of special interest in that it is one of the most southerly stands of Canadian larch. All are invited to join the society for an afternoon outdoors. The group will meet at the Pierceton Community building at 1:45 p.m. and at the Laketon School at 2:15 p.m. All field trips go regardless of weather.

Past presidents of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, North Webster, were honored at the organization's eighth anniversary ladies night dinner at the Epworth Forest Hotel on April 18. Past presidents honored are as follows: Lorin Badskey. Past president of Kiwanis International, 1972-73 Chris Koher, 1970-71 Don Arnold, 1971-72 Jerry Badskey, 1972-73 Sherman Bryant, 1975-76 Unable to be present for the anniversary dinner were the following: Joe Longenecker, 1069-70 51TH CELEBRATES 90th BIRTHDAY — Mrs. Ada May Birch, a resident of Syracuse, will be celebrating her 90th birthday May 3. An open house celebration will be given in her honor on May 1, from 2-4 p.m. Mrs. Birch was born in 1887 in rural Kansas. Her father (Peter Hill) brought her and her younger sister, Mary, to Indiana in a covered wagon when she was only seven years old. In 1908, she married Virgil Birch who died in 1958. She lived all of her married life in rural Noble and Whitley County. She now lives with her daughter. Mrs. John (Clearis) Michael on Papakeechie Lake, r 2 Syracuse. Her other children include: Mrs. Bob (Daurice) Kingery, Lebanon, Ohio; Clarence Birch, r 6 Columbia City; and Theron Birch, r 1 Milford. One son, Harry Birch, Larwill, died in 1974. She also has seven grandchildren. 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Mogo. the family's silver poodle, is her constant companion and entertainer. The dog is shown on her lap. The open house will be held at her daughter’s house on Papakeechie Lake, r 2 Syracuse.

Mother-daughter banquet to be held in Syracuse
The United Methodist Women of Calvary Church, Syracuse, will be sponsoring a motherdaughter banquet on Wednesday, May 4. in the dining room of the Oakwood Park Hotel at 6:30 p.m. A carry-in dinner and program are being planned. The welcome address will be given by Mrs. John Walker who is also serving as general chairman of the event. Hie dinner invocation will be given by Mary Kitson. Mrs. Ross Cook will introduce the speaker, Mrs. Myron Corll, Huntington, who will give a program entitled, “Words and Music.” Mrs. Corll has appeared on a number of television shows, presenting music on the marimba. She has also presented many programs in and around Indiana. Her readings in the program are of her own composition. She is also active in the College Park Church, the Huntington County Red Cross and the American Business Women’s Association. She has three married daughters and four grandchildren.

Recognized for perfect attendance were Dean Hartle and past presidents Chris Koher, Jerry Badskey and Don Arnold. Lorin Badskey has a total of 33 years perfect attendance, including eight in the local club. Director Ron Richey served as chairman for the ladies night anniversary’ dinner.
Also at the banquet, a motherdaughter response feature will be presented by Mrs. Gary Eyer and her daughter, Karen. The closing prayer will be given by Mary Kitson following the program. All ladies of the Syracuse community are invited to attend.
