Spring rains, warm weather bring mushroom hunters out
By PATRICIA M. BRAMAN Extension Agent. Home Ec. Spring rains and warm weather bring out the hunters — mushroom hunters. Fresh mushrooms are unique in favor, easy to prepare, and go well with a variety of foods. In addition, they are low in calories. Good mushroom hunters have * their own "secret" signs and spots for locating their prey. Actually the location of mushrooms is determined by their food supply. Because mushrooms contain no chlorophyll and can't produce their own food, they live off decaying organic matter in soil — tree root, fallen logs, stumps, or leaf mold. Mushrooms should be cleaned carefully to remove dirt and insects. Soaking in salt water is the best procedure Never use any mushroom that shows signs of decay. It harbors ptomaines and toxins just like r MR. AND MRS. D
Mr. and Mrs. David Lawson to live in Boston, Mass.
The new Mr. and Mrs. David Lawson will reside in Boston following their wedding at the Milford Christian Church on Saturday, April 16. The bride is the former TammySue Tobias, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Tobias of r 2 Syracuse. Her husband is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Lawson of r 1 Leesburg. Robert Greenwood, pastor of the church, performed the 7:30 o'clock ceremony in the presence of 175 guests. A unity center piece, candles on the pews and at the altar formed the decorations for the candlelight double-ring service. Richard Fehnel, organist, accompanied Mitz Lils as she sang. "We Have Oily Begun ” Given in marriage by her father, the bride chose a gown of sheer organza with Venetian lace sheer keyhole bodice with stand wedding ring collar, long, full, sleeves with empire waist line and chapel-length train. He- veil was of sheer organza with Venetian lace trim held by a Camelot- style cap trimmed with lace motifs and stimulated pearls. She carried white carnations with a touch of blue on a white Bible. Babby Tobias, sister of the bride, r 2 Syracuse, served as maid of honor. She wore a light blue empire waist gown trimmed with daisies. It flowed into a long A-line. A white picture hat complimented her gown. any other decaying matter. As a precaution, wild mushrooms should never be eaten raw. Mushrooms are actually very low in calories. But while cooking, they tend to absorb considerable amounts of butter, oil or cream which add calories. To store mushrooms for a short period of time keep them refrigerated in a ventilated container. To keep them light in color, sprinkle them with lemon juice.

The couple enjoyed a camping trip and plans to reside in Boston, Mass. The bnde is currently Finishing her senior year at Wawasee High School, she will join her husband " in Boston after her graduation. The bridegroom is a member of the US Navy.

French Fried Mushrooms I lb. mushrooms, cup flour, 1 tsp. salt, one-sixteenth tsp ground black pepper, 2 eggs lightly beaten, cup fine dry bread crumbs. Rinse, pat dry, trim mushrooms. Combine flour with salt and pepper. Dredge mushrooms first in flour mixture. then dip in eggs. Roll in bread crumbs. Fry in deep fat, preheated to 365 degrees until golden brown, about 3 minutes. Drain on paper toweling.

Mrs. Elsie Weybright returned Thursday to her New Paris farm home after spending several months in Florida. Glen Good was dismissed Monday from the Elkhart Hospital where he underwent surgery 10 days ago. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Mock spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Holloway and family at Mentone. The birthdays of Mrs. Mock and her daughter Mrs. Holloway, which both occur April 24, were observed. Mrs. Ray Ferverda attended the Win-Some Women’s meeting at Winona over the weds end. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Morehouse called on Mrs. Everett Morehouse of South Bend on Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morehouse called on Mr. and Mrs. Bill Newcum of Cassopolis, Mich., on Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Morehouse and Mr. and Mrs. Rex Fultz of Fort Wayne spent Sunday together. Rev. and Mrs. Howard Kreider spent the week end with Mrs. Ida Tisch of Grandville, Mich. Tisch are brother and sister. —NS— Jean Northenor attends seminar Jean Northenor, auditor of Kosciusko County, attended an academy in the public service training seminar, “County Budget Preparation,” on April 20 in Fort Wayne. The free seminar was available on a limited enrollment basis to county elected officials in northeastern Indiana who desired some concentrated training in budget [reparation techniques. The seminar was taught by Gilbert Klose, chairman of the department of economics at Earlham College and a cooperating faculty associate of the academy in the public service. Mr. Klose examined the Indiana local budget process and the relationship between the various officials involved in the annual budget preparations. "County Budget Preparation” is just one Os a series of free educational seminars being offered by the. academy to Indiana’s state and local citizen politicians. The' seminars, scheduled for regional sites around the state, are an important aspect of the academy’s overall program providing training, technical assistance and referral, and informational - services to Indiana’s elected governmental leaders. .The academy is financially supported by Lilly Endowment, Inc.

North Webster women attend state session KOKOMO — More than 200 members of Psi lota Xi gathered in Kokomo Saturday. April 23, for a state meeting. The meeting was conducted by Pat Tatousek, Indiana president, of Munster. Mrs. Phil Hoy and Mrs. Gilbert Waltz represented Theta Sigma Chapter of North Webster. Other members attending the meeting were Mrs. Ron Gillum and Mrs. Luther Allen. Several philanthropic projects proposed by various chapters in the state were discussed. Support to specific projects will be decided at a fall meeting in Indianapolis on October 8. Fees that will support the state-based philanthropic projects were set for the coming fiscal year which begins-May 1, 1978. Psi lota Xi is a philanthropic organization organized in 1897 in Muncie. Since its organization, it has become a nation-wide group that has recently organized by

state groups. The Indiana chapters adopted state by-laws in September* of last year. The . sorority supports those projects dealing with speech and hearing, mpsic, and the fine arts. State officers in addition to Mrs. Tatousek of Beta Nu, East Chicago, are Carolyn Barnett, Theta Beta, Paoli; Carol Mehrings of Theta lota, Monticello; and Pat Wood of the hostess chapter, Kappa, Kokomo. Georgina Morehouse to graduate Georgina Morehouse, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Morehouse of Milford will be graduating from the Winnipeg Bible College at their annual graduation exercises on Sunday afternoon, May 1. The graduation service will be held in the Jubilee Auditorium on the college campus at Otterbume, Manitoba. Georgina will be graduated with a certificate of biblical studies. Winnipeg Bible College, founded in 1925, is an interdenominational college offering undergraduate courses in Biblical studies, theology, humanities, social sciences, Christian ministries and music. In addition, the graduate division of the college, Winnipeg Theological Seminary, offers graduate studies leading to the degrees of master of arts in Christian education, Master of divinity and Master of theology. Georgina took her high school training at Wawasee High School.
