Track team working toward 'arrival' next week
“After this week we should have arrived.” commented Jerry Minton. Wawasee track coach. Minton said his team gets a late start each year, not having indoor meets, and the team is at the point of shaping up. With a 5-0 record thus far in the season, the team had their first conference meet with Concord on home turf last night. Minton said Concord. Goshen. Fairfield, and Warsaw “looks decent”, with Goshen having depth and Bremen and Rochester possessing good individuals. "Our conference is just a very, very good conference." Minton explained. Team members were instructed by Minton to peak for three of the scheduled meets, of their choice. But the coach has requested them to choose the Goshen meet next Thursday for one of the choices, A majority of freshmen and sophomaes are on the team, but “They're coming around very well,” Minton said. The freshmen finished a meet against Goshen with 63-63. The freshmen will later compete in the Land O Lakes invitational. Tippy Valley relays and a couple of other meets later in the season. Stan Kroh singled, Kent Trobaugh hit a sacrifice and Kroh scored. In the sixth inning Bryan Smith singled. Greg Evans hit a double to bring Smith in to score. In the seventh inning Stan Kroh singled. Coach Marsha Carpenter took her defending state championship track team to Penn High School last night (Tuesday) and came home a 75-30 victor. “1 didn’t expect to win.” Carpenter said. “People expect you to though.” The Penn team is a tough team and has suffered few defeats the past several years.
