Mrs. Bender, the former Anna Marie Lange, said they had more puppies than they bargained for in the litter of II and were looking for good homes for them, as another daughter. Duker attended the Clayton county school north-west of Milford near the Edward Becknell farm. Miller, was promoted to cadet staff sergeant at the US Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Heather Beer, daughter of the Philip Beers of near Our Town, won first place in vaulting in the state YMCA gymnastics meet. She also won seconds in the floor exercises, balance beam parallel bars and was second in the allaround competition And. out at the Glenn Wuthrich home the seams are really popping with son Ron becoming the first Wawasee High School student to place in the state speech finals in Indianapolis. Ron placed second in broadcasting out of 25 contestants. Younger son Rex was chosen by the Milford Legion to represent the post at Boys’ State this summer and. an article this week lists Ron as a Manchester Scholar. WHAT DO Mrs Don (Berniece) Ahrns and Jackie Onassis have in common? Both have birthdays on July 27. SARAH SLABAL’GH and Faye Hollar are out measuring buildings again since the warm weather has arrived. The ladies are working on the county’s reassessment project. "He’s cute," she said, quickly adding, "I just got to see him.” COMPLETES REQUIREMENTS — Phil Beer, president of Beer Realtors, was recently notified that he has successfully finished a course of study required for a certified residential broker designation. The five courses covered management of an office, training sales associates, expansion. communications and marketing. All courses were offered by the Realtors National Marketing Institute, the educational arm of the Association of Realtors. Shock sentenced to prison term John Shock, r 1 Pierceton, was sentenced to a 15 to 25 year term in prison, after being found guilty cn a second degree murder charge, in the shooting death of Leland Atteberry last year. A jury in Whitley County found Shock guilty April 1. Edward J. Meyers. Whitley Circuit Court Judge, suggested Shock serve his time at the Indiana Youth Center, Plainfield. The term in that facility was recommended by the jury Michael D. Ruch. Shock’s attorney, attempted during the trial to prove the youth was legally insane. Shock and three other area youths were riding in a truck along US 30 east last May 29. After shooting at signs, Phillip Buhrt, 17, Syracuse, told Shock to shoot motorcyclist Atteberry. it was testified at the Shock trial. Also charged with second degree murder in the death is Buhrt. His trial has been set for June 21, in Whitley County Circuit Court.

It Happened In . . . Milford, Indiana 14 YEARS AGO. APRIL 25,1963 The family of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Beer of r 1 Milford met at the Milford fire station dining room Sunday afternoon to help them observe their 80th birthdays. Mr. Beer was 80 on March 6 and Mrs. Beer will be 80 on October 6. Both were born at Roanoke, 111. Nearly a hundred members of the Beer family and close relatives were present. Schyuler Losee of r 2 Milford found a cancelled check from the bank in Kankakee, 111. last Thrusday morning in his bam yard. It is believed the check was blown to the Losee farm on Wednesday evening during the storm. Kankakee was hit by a tornado Wednesday. Harold Junior Bleile of Milford, recently attained the rank of yoeman 2nd class. Junior is aboard the submarine tender USS Hunley at the Polaris base, Holy Lock. Scotland. 24 YEARS AGO, APRIL 23. 1953 More than 32,000 trees were purchased from the state nursery by Kosciusko county farmers for reforestation, erosion control, and wind break plantings this spring. Orders for the trees were made through the state conservation and the county extension office early in the winter and the trees were delivered to the purchasers early this month. Two Milford high school seniors were in a twocar auto accident at noon Wednesday on the corner of Catherine and Henry Streets when their car collided with one driven by two Warsaw youths. John Yeater, high school senior and basketball star was driving his 1947 Studebaker when a car driven by Harold Shepler. Warsaw, turned in front of him. 30 YEARS AGO, APRIL 24. 1947 Mrs. Sarha A. Case who lives in the house north of the Herbert Baumgartner residence on James Street, was 93 years old last Friday, April 18th. Except for a few bruises sustained in a recent fall, Mrs. Case is in good health, and took a friendly interest in answering questions for The Milford Mail. Dr. C. Harve Geiger, formerly of Milford, was formerly inaugurated as the sixth president of North Central College at inauguration service in Pfeiffer Hall, Friday morning at 10 o’clock. 40 YEARS AGO, APRIL 22.1937 The cooking school, sponsored by the Northern Indiana Public Service Co., and held at the M.H.S. gymnasium, Wednesday afternoon of last week, was attended by a large crowd of ladies from this vicinity. Leesburg and New Paris. Mary Alice Phend of Milford has been elected to membership in Pi Lambda Theta, national honorary organization for teachers at Bloomington, Indiana University. Mr. and Mrs. Myron Warstler of South Bend, formerly of Milford, announce the birth of a son on April 16. No name has been chosen as yet. Participates in service Navy signalman second class Daniel E. Yoder participated recently in the US Sixth Fleet operation “National Week XXII.” Yoder, whose wife Starr is the daughter of Mr and Mrs. Stanley Martin, box 146 Milford, is a crewmember aboard the guided missle destroyer USS Dewey, homeported in Charleston.
