Millersburg) are home from a four-day trip to Las Vegas where they stayed at the Westward Ho Hotel, all as a result of winning a contest sponsored by an Elkhart county radio station. Perhaps you never heard about the fellow who grinds lenses and who moved to an island off Alaska? There he is known as an optical Aleutian. Jane Alexander of the Syracuse license branch is all smiles this week. Reason: Three grandchildren (they call her •'Granny”), Margi. Mindy and Mike Walker of Indianapolis are visiting her at her Runaway Bay Hacienda during spring vacation. And. speaking of the license branch, it’s a busy place right now. Jack Vanderford, branch manager, tells it this way: Our long, hard winter kept a lot of people from buying their, license plates during the winter months, and now they are rushing in before their deadline. Based on the first initial of a bearer’s last name, dates for purchase are as follows: A-C, Feb. 28; D-H. March 31; I-N, April 30; OS. May 31; and T-Z, June 30. Company or corporation vehicles must get new plates before January 31. and trucks, trailers, tractors and special machinery must have plates before Feb. 28. They placed an ad to that effect in the Mail-Journal several weeks ago.

They just received a reply this week from Germany of all places. Ron Diehl, a Syracuse man who is stationed in Furth, receives the MailZlouroal about two to three weeks late, so he wasn’t able to send his idea until now. Ron's suggestion is to call the grocery The Uptown Store. The Uptown Store it might or might not be, cause Connolly's hasn't decided on a new name as yet. The winner of the contest will receive $5 when the renaming occurs. Think the snow this week is so bad? About nine years ago, it snowed so bad in Syracuse that the snow plows had to be brought out to clear off the streets. c Bit .. We sure hope spring gets here for good, don't you? This morning's snow reminded some of the April 16, 1961 snow when road 13 and 15, both running north and south through Kosciusko County, were completely blocked, and literally hundreds of stranded motorists were forced to stay with local resident the night. April snows are not all that unusual, but the 1961 snowfall was about 12 inches. coming on a late Sunday afternoon. Turkey Creek township trustee Joe Shewmon is miffed that he has not been consulted on appointments to the Syracuse Plan Commission, in cases where replacements are township representatives. He has. on the other hand, been asked to come up with what township funds he can find to support legal costs in the town’s effort to get a declaratory judgment of the court to see who has jurisdiction over the township outside Syracuse in matters of planning it would appear Judge Lee of the circuit court will table the appointments for replacements in the case of Maurice Crow.
