we flew to Tenerife. It all seemed so idyllic. Here is a passage of what I wrote of our visit there, published in The Mail-Journal and put into booklet form later; I must confess I had never heard of Tenerife until our group met at the JFK airport at NewYork and I struck up a conversation with an IBM representative there. fight permits issued in JofnJtiryj ■ corociij Syracuse Building Commissioner Al Bauer released the activities of his office for the months of January and February. A total of eight permits were issued for a total estimated construction cost of 1126.940. For one-iamily dwellings, there were three permits issued for an estimated construction cost of $75,000. One permit was issued for an industrial building. $30,000; one permit for residential carports and garages, $4,000; two permits for structures other than buildings, $6,500; and one permit for housekeeping residential building. $11,440.
Syracuse< An old barn, built by the late John T. Vawter about 1870, is being tom down on r 3 Syracuse, about four miles southeast of Syracuse, and is being moved to Nappanee where it will be reerected at Amish Acres. The former Amish Acres building burned down oh the morning of Monday, January 31, the work of arsonists who were immediately apprehended La Verne Pletcher and his son Richard, principal owners of the Amish Acres complex, had purchased the old bam near Syracuse prior to the disastrous fire and had planned to move it on the Amish Acres site to join the bam that birned. The Pletchers hope to have the bam re-erected and in use by August for the late summer traffic. The huge structure, truly a landmark, has 44-foot eight-by-eight beams that are pegged. No nails were used in the main frame of the structure, according to information supplied to us byMrs. Howard (Mary Lou) Dixon, a granddaughter of the late B. Clark Green, at one time an owner and operator of what has become known as the VawterGreen farm on which the old bam is situated. Thornburg elected hospital president
Ralph W. Thornburg, president of the Thornburg Drug Company, Inc., a Syracuse-based retail drug chain, was elected president of the Kosciusko Community Hospital board of directors at its Monday night meeting. Thornburg will replace Robert D. Maish who has been KCH president for the past two years. Maish was elected chairman of the hospital board for the coming year. Thornburg has been a member of the hospital board since 1969, having been re-appointed in 1974 for a five-year term. Other Officers Other officers elected are as follows: Vice president — N. John PerrySecretary — Wayne Johnson Treasurer — Bruce Wright Executive committee — Dr. Wyman Wilson. Lawrence J. Castaldi, Thomas R. Lemon and Arch Baumgartner. The election followed the annual meeting of the 90-member board in the hospital cafeteria. Area Plan Commission at work here The Kosciusko County Area Plan Commission is currently administering business in Turkey Creek Township from its Warsawoffice. NO funds are available to hire a person to staff an office in the township, reports Cinda Overmyer of the county plan commission. Funds to hire such a person would have to be okayed by the area plan commission and approved by the Kosciusko County Commissioners before such action could be taken. “At this point, there are no immediate plans to do that,” Overmyer said. Overmyer added the Warsaw office is understaffed at the present time. The director Robert Orcutt, & on vacation, before his resignation from the commission becomes effective March 31. No decision on a replacement has been made by the commission. If no one is appointed by March 31, Overmyer is to assume Orcutt’s duties With both the area plan commission and Syracuse Plan Commission claiming jurisdiction of Turkey Creek Township, a petition for a declaratory judgment has been filed by Robert Reed, attorney for Syracuse, for the town board and local plan commission. No litigation is planned by the county commission Overmyer said. “We will just sit back and see what decision is made by the court," she said. The next regular meeting of the area plan commission is Wednesday. April 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the commissioner’s room in the Kosciusko County Courthouse. HOME FROM FLORIDA Mr. and Mrs. Earle Waltz of Lake Wawasee have returned to their home after a two-month vacation in Lake 'Worth, Fla.

Church will deliver the message “Follow Him to Calvary." On Sunday each church will hold its own Easter service. Participating churches are the Milford United Methodist, Bethel Church of the Brethren, First Brethren, Christian and Island Chapel United Methodist. Offering plates will be placed at the rear of the sanctuary. Monies received will be used for the expenses of the Holy Week Services and for a community fund for the needy.

Roberts. 28. r 1 Syracuse, lost control of his car at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Inarch 22, on Pickwick Road, one mile east of Turkey Creek and skidded into a tree and fence. Roberts told police the road had become slick. He had been driving east on Pickwick Road at the time. No damage was listed to the Roberts car. A fence belonging to Pickwick Gardens was damaged $35 Syracuse Case has been sold The Syracuse Case, popular uptown Syracuse restaurant and gathering place, has been sold, according to Cherrie Caldwell, owner. The new owners, who will take over the establishment Friday, April 1, are William F. and Darlene J. Hane, residents of Enchanted Hills. They were former owners and operators of a pizza outlet at Millersburg. Mrs. Caldwell has operated the business since May 1970, closed briefly in mid-1975, then reopened the restaurant as a cafeteria June 19, 1975. She will stay with the new owners for a week. Mrs Caldwell recommends the Hanes, referring to them as “an awfully nice young couple.” Asked what she planned to do, Mrs. Caldwell said she wanted to go into retirement —for the third time! Short causes fire An electrical short was the cause of a fire run at the Syracuse Rubber Plant 2, Wawasee Village, early Monday morning, March 28. Firemen were called to the scene at 3:08 a.m. The sfiort apparently started in one of the blocks and cracked the block wall. I No water was used. Firemen were excused at 3:45 a.m.
