St. Patrick's Day theme used for Barbee club

Tables were decorated in keeping with a Saint Patrick’s Day theme for the March 2 meeting and carry-in dinner of Barbee Hoosier Club. The event was held at Barbee Conservation club building. Ruth Butler, president, was in charge of the business session. The treasurer’s report was given by Violet Lawson. Minutes of the last meeting were read by Opal Esch due to the absence of the regular secretary, Fanny Scoville. Roll call was answered by 11 members Comments of appreciation were presented on behalf of the recipient of the club's Christmas charity project. Mary Stackhouse and Suzann Bricker. Earlier Meeting Jan Brindle was hostess for the meeting of Psi lota Xi Sorority held recently at North Webster United Methodist Church. It has been reported that the sorority sponsored play “The Good Doctor” that was presented recently at Wawasee High School, by the Hanover College Theater group, was well attended. Plans are being finalized for allocation of philanthropic funds for the coming year. A white elephant.sale was held. Officers elected for Sechrist 65 Elect ion of officers was held during the March 2 meeting of Sechrist Sixty Five Home Extension Club. The ladies met at the home of Norma Boyer. She was assisted by Dixie Pryor The new officers are: Marian Breyer — president Mrs. Pryor — vice president Janet Allen — secretarytreasurer Karen Richardson presented the lesson “Low Cost Decorating Ideas” and the cultural arts lesson A group discussion was held concerning income tax. Mrs. Pryor gave the meditation and devotions. She read from the 13th chapter of I Corinthians. Garden Remarks were given by Mrs Boyer and Janet Allen gave the health and safety lesson. Discussion was held concerning home extension club meetings at Millers Merry Manor. Jeanette Shidler was welcomed as a new member. Laurel Shoemaker will serve as hostess for the April meeting. Church of God are planning a work day, at the church, starting at 10:30 a.m., March 15. The February 28 meeting of North Webster Pythian Sisters was cancelled due to inclement weather. The next regular meeting is scheduled for March 14. Senior High Youth from North Webster Church of God are planning a swim party for March 12. Family Night Fellowship will be held at 7 p.m., March 16, at North Webster Church of God. Film to be shown at Church of God A Child Evangelism Film will be shown at North Webster Church of God on March 20, at 7 p.m. Following the film there will be a “Get-Acquainted” time of fellowship to welcome newcomers. -NWGarry Valentine promoted in rank Marine Lance Corporal Garry A. Valentine, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Valentine of r 1 North Webster has been promoted to his present rank while serving with second marine division. Camp Lejeune, N. C. Two youths arrested after chase Two 14-year-old youths, one from North Webster and one from Kimmell, were arrested and booked at county jail on a charge of theft of a truck belonging to Stephen R. White, r 1 North Webster. White reported that his 1972 truck parked at White’s Mobile Station in North Webster with the keys under the floorboard was stolen around 10:20 p.m. Wednesday. An alert Pierceton deputy marshal noted the truck traveling through Pierceton on Old Rd. 30 toward Warsaw. Another deputy marshal from Winona Lake set up a roadblock at the intersection of Old Rd. 30 and US 30 east of Warsaw. The truck drove through the roadblock and continued traveling west in the east bound traffic lane nearly colliding with a semitruck. The driver of the stolen truck stopped the vehicle following a shot fired by one of the deputies. The youths’ parents were notified. Vandalize pay phone near school Vandalism of an outside pay phone in front of the Syracuse Junior High School resulted in SSO damages. The incident was reported to the Syracuse police by’ a citizen on March 2 at 10 p.m.
