■ The Column H Mfe 4 Sideshow Os Events In Milford
WE RECEIVED the following poem and thought it covered the feelings of many persons during the recent snow emergency which closed schools: Mothers-Kids Snowbound If by any chance The weather should get worse If they cancel school once more I know I’ll go berserk! The first couple days The kids thought of as fun But the rest of the time Up the wall I was run They fought and tormented the rest Till I thought I was mad But everytime on the radio The news was still bad With eight kids home bored to death , And weather too cold to play outside

I gave them chores, games and kits And hoped that would abide Then the radio said some good news There would be school the next day But the wind blew and it snowed in the night That was a dirty trick I’d say They had more days off from school. Temp, not bad — outside had a blast But poor mom was figuring How long can this mess last! Finally that long awaited day did come They announced there would finally be school But I sure as heck wasn't positive Till the "beautiful” bus pulled up over the hill
Now come on Mother Nature Be fair to us mothers With our nerves all on edge, like they were Made it hard to get along with others No school due to bad weather Does strange things to one’s nerves They stretch to the breaking point You must use your reserves Everything’s now back to normal The bouse gets cleaned and remains clean The house is so quiet, too quiet Now I know I’m insane! I miss all the clamor With the busy, busy full day I’m a natural, normal complaining but loving mom What more can I say! The above was written by Millie James of Dewart Lake. WE ARE doing something a little different this week, asking all of our readers to take a look at Crurin. Lakeland School Superintendent Don H. Arnold has furnished that column with a wealth of information on the school corporation and we. think it a must for everyone. DON’T FORGET MAD's banquet is Saturday night! The committee is hoping for 100 people to be in attendance — that doesn’t sound like very many people are taking an interest in the community.
WORD IS out the fire department has openings for three persons as trainees. Anyone over 21 who is interested in serving the town as a volunteer fireman should contact Chief Bill Leemon or assistant chiefs Bob Hurd or Max Duncan for applications. THERE IS a chili supper in the planning! Members of the baseball boosters (they know spring is on the way) are holding the supper from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 11, at the elementary school — let’s all go and support this worthwhile program.

Disney's newest shaggy tail at Pickwick theater this week
Incredible though it may seem, there is a serious side to Tim Conway. Even so, he treats it lightly. “Comics are super, super sensitive,” Conway delcared. “In a theater, the first people to cry at a scene where you should cry are the comics, and the first people to cry at a scene where you should laugh are the comics. “I myself often find tears coming at commercials.” Having admitted this unsuspected tenderness, Conway popped another surprise. He revealed himself as the author of eight screenplays, only half of which are comedies. "The others must be played by straight actors.” he said. “George Kennedy read one and didn’t believe I wrote it. He said it was the most sensitive piece he had read in two years. Well now, that made me — the guy in the chicken outfit — feel pretty good!” To quickly squelch any fear that Conway might be trifling with his seat as America's clown prince, he plays a bakery-truck driver who throws pies and owns a dog that talks sometimes in Walt Disney Productions’ "The Shaggy D.A.” The comedy is a sequel to “The Shaggy Dog,” Disney's 1959 hit about a teenager who turned into a you know what. Now the kid is grown up. afid Conway happens to acquire the ring that changes him into a canine. “It’s my kind of humor,” Conway said. . “Silly Conway doing those silly things again. style. You must be careful not to jolt an audience if they are expecting one thing and they come and see another. “It would be difficult, if not impossible, to take the little silly guy that I play and have him do something dramatic and make the audience believe it.” While Conway has his moments of gravity, most of the time he really resembles his screen self. Tim was at home one night recently, when a stranger appeared at his door with robbery in mind. Conway invited him to sit down and chat. “You want two hundred dollars and I only have six bucks on me,” Conway said. "Tell you what I'll do. I’ll give you a check for two hundred, you go to the supermarket and cash it, and bring me two cans of Manhandler soup. With that he said he was going to mug me. *1 sure hope you don’t because I’ve got a black belt,’ I told him. What I meant was I had a black belt that goes with my black suit. Lucky he didn’t ask to see it. “Just then the guy offered to settle for my six bucks and take off. ’Nothing doing,’ I said, because then you won’t go get the soup.’ “So we talked, and it turned out he needed money to get his car in shape to find a job. I gave him a lecture on honesty and a two hundred dollar check. So far he hasn’t returned it.” Conway delights in disconcerting everybody. He rattled Harvey Korman by dashing up and standing beside him at the televised Emmy Award presentations. He flustered a panhandler outside the studio where he does the Carol Burnett show. “The guy has been hitting me for a handout every week for
