German-speaking ministers start movement
By Rev. Chester Reed, pastor Zion Chapel UB Church In the eighteenth century, it pleased the Lord to awaken persons in different parts of the world; who should hold up Christian religion and preach the Gospel of Christ in its purity. About the middle of that century, a number of German-speaking ministers, who lived scattered in this extensive country and seldom had an opportunity to hear the gospel in their native language, organized into a conference. Their labors were blessed and they established in many places excellent societies < churches) leading mam' precious souls to Christ. The societies grew in

Confession of Faith That all may know what the United • Brethren in Christ believe, this is the Confession of Faith: 1. The Triune God. In the name of God we declare and confess before all men. that we believe in the only true God, the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost; that these three are one — the Father in the Son, the Son in the Father, and the Holy Ghost equal in essence or being with both; that this Triune God created the heavens and the earth and all that in them is, visible as well as invisible, and furthermore sustains, governs, protects and supports the same. 2. Jesus Christ, the Son. We believe in Jesus Christ; that He is very God and man; that He became incarnate by the power of the Holy Ghost in the Virgin Mary and was born of her;

number and moved westward from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia. Out of this movement and many disappointing hardships, the Zion Chapel Church was constructed on the corner of the SyracuseNorth Webster and what is now 1000 N roads. In 1898, what is now the main sanctuary was built. According to Judge Lemuel Royce’s history of 1918, the United Brethren in Christ was the second denomination to establish in Kosciusko County. The Zion Chapel Church was originally included in what was known as the Indian Village Circuit. The village church is now closed and Zion Chapel now operates as a station by itself.
that He is the Savior and Mediator erf the whole human race, if they with full faith in Him accept the grace proffered in Jesus; that this Jesus suffered and died on the cross for us, was buried, arose again on the third day, ascended into heaven and sitteth on the right hand of God to intercede for us; and that He shall come again at the last day to judge the quick and the dead. 3. The Holy Spirit. Comforter and Guide We believe in the Holy Ghost; that He is equal in being with the Father and the Son and that He comforts the faithful and guides them into all truth. 4. The Church We believe in the Holy Christian church, the communion of saints, the resurrection of the body and everlasting life. 5. The Holy Bible and Salvation We believe that the Holy Bible.

Many young men began their work as ministers of this country church; some have gone on to their reward; others have become noted pastors of larger churches and one now serves as a North Ohio conference superintendent. They really all served a church where the sanctuary was the classroom for all the classes as well as worship services. In 1963, under the leadership of Rev. and Mrs. Carl Gable, who was serving their second appointment at this pastorate, a new entrance, vestible, ceiling and lighting system were added. Later, in 1963, the Sunday School had so increased it was thought wise to again remodel. This time
Old and New Testaments, is the way of our salvation; that every true Christian is bound to acknowledge and receive it with the influence of the Spirit of God as the only rule and guide; and that without faith in Jesus Christ, true repentance forgiveness of sins and following after Christ, no one can be a true Christian. 6. The Salvation Message We also believe that what is contained in the Holy scriptures to with: the fall of Adam and redemption through Jesus Christ, shall be preached throughout the world. 7. The Christian Ordinances We believe that the ordinances. vix: Baptism and the remembrance of the sufferings and death of our Lord Jesus Christ, are to be in use and practiced by all Christian societies; and that it is incumbent on all the children of God particularly to practice them; but the manner in which.

five classrooms, two restrooms and a new heating system were added. In 1965, it was a completed project. Eight years later on Easter Sunday morning, April 22, 1975. the mortgage was burned by the Sunday School superintendent, Eldon Watkins and pastor Chester Reed, who was appointed by the Conference as regular paster, July 1, 1967. Also in 1972. the sanctuary was covered on the ouside with new siding and painted. A new coat of paint is again anticipated in the spring. The faithful loyalty of many pastors and laymen has enabled this congregaton to maintain a Christian influence in our community during many years of trying endeavor. Many elder members of the church and residents of the community recall many joyful experiences at this historic landmark. Although the older are departed, those who remain and love the Lord still find inspring fellowship in this country church.
The services consist of Sunday School at 9:30 am. under the leadership of Eldon Watkins, superintendent; morning worship at 10:30 am.; evening service at 7 p.m. by pastor Reed. Prayer services at 7 p.m. are enjoyed in different homes of the members on Wednesday evenings. Hubert Schmucker, the lay leader, is in charge. Once each month, the first Thursday evening at 7 p.m. the W’omen's Missionary Association meets for a missionary fellowship. Jeanette Cripe is their president One night, usually the last Friday night of the month is a time of family fellowship at the Guy schoolhouse on the opposite corner from the church. A carryin dinner and a time of fellowship is enjoyed.
\ - n REV. CHESTER REED ought always to be left to the judgement and understanding of every individual. Also the example of washing of feet is left to the judgement of everyone to practice or not.
