Steven J. Patterson takes Neva Snyder as his bride

The Grace Lutheran Church at Syracuse was the scene of the December 18 marriage of Neva Lucille Snyder and Steven J. Patterson. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs Maurice Snyder and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Patterson, all of the Syracuse area. The bride chose a gown of ivory satin with an empire waist and ruffle at the bottom A lace inset was featured at the neckline. Lt featured rhinestones and seed pearls and a mandarin collar. The dress also featured chiffon puffed sleeves with lace cuffs and scalloped edges. The satin train was edged in a ruffle. The gown was made by the bride. She also wore a two-layer veil with lace outlined scalloped edges on the cap. Janet Walton served as maid of honor. She wore a gown of blue. groomsmen were in the colors of the lady attendant’s gowns. Roger Wiggs was best man. The groomsmen were Randy Niles, Roger Bertram and Tom Patterson Allen Keller, nephew of the bride, served as ring bearer. His color was green. Ushers were Daniel Snyder and Bill Niles. the annual style show will be held on April 20. Kay Miller and Anita Bjella report*td that the baskets of food and gifts were taken to a local family and the members were very happy and thankful. The fund has not been used recently so the schools in the area are to be con acted to remind them the fund can be used. The social committee reported on the upcoming Valentine party to be held on February 12. Kay Miller reported she will start the pledge training. Karen Glick and Linda Hossler will meet today for their first meeting. A Christmas exchange was held between secret pals since the C’lristmas party had been cancelled. Primary Mothers enjoy exercising Members of the Primary Mothers club of Syracuse met in the Lakeland Youth Center on January 3 for a pot luck supper. Co-hos t esses for the evening were LciLoni Nemeth and Karen Tranter. A short business meeting was held with reports given on the Christmas project. The program for the evening was given by Donna Johnson who demonstrated exercises used in her dancercizing classes at the youth center. She also led the women as they exercised. The date of February 12 was chosen for the husband’s Valentine’s party. It will be held in the home of Chris Clodfelter. •' Christ mas Party The club held its Christmas party in the home of Sharon Peterson on December 20. Cohostcsrtes were Deb Mangas and Lorena Carlson. Reports were given on the Morning with Santa and gifts were received from secret pals. The next business meeting will be hdd January 17 in the home of Carol Swartzendruber. Book review heard by Brethren women ’Hie women’s group of the First Brethren Church of Milford met last Thursday night in the home of Mrs. Charlene Woolson on Henry Street for their monthly meeting. Mrs Inez Beiswanger served as program leader and used the them* "His Guidance is Trustworthy*’ for the evening. She used Proverbs 3:6 as her scripture and a short story plus a poem. The heart screening program is available to all fourth grade students in the county from January 4-20. The program is used to test the children for heart disease and is sponsored by the sororities. Sandra Gerencser initiated into Alpha Lambda Delta

The Purdue University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta, a national society honoring high scholastic achievement during the first year in college, has initiated 95 members including Sandra Gerencser, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Gerencser, ST., of Milford. Membership in the society is open to students attaining a 5.5 grade index of a possible 6 for the first semester of the freshman year or a 5.5 cumulative index for the first two semesters. Guest speaker during the initiation ceremony was Kathleen Johanningsmeier, a senior in supervision. Initiates were each presented with a membership certificate by Sheila Shearon, chapter adviser and Engaged couple honored at a bridal shower Sandy Barth and her fiance, Lee Beer of Milford, were honored by members of the Apostolic Christian Church and neighbors of the Beers at a bridal shower last Thursday night. Tie couple will be married on February 27. In previous years groups of Manchester students have spent the month of January in the Soviet Union, Mexico, India and various parts of Europe. This January other groups are in West Africa and Centrad and South America.

Lakeland Locals Robert E. Buster. Jr., his wife Carole (LeCount) and family are now residing at 6519 W. Purdue Ave., Glendale, Ariz., 85302. Mr. Buster is the son of Georgia Buster of Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Haney of near Milford were hosts at a birthday dinner for Mrs. Galen Haney of North Webster on Sunday. The dinner was held in a Warsaw restaurant with Mr. Haney and three children also present. In the afternoon the group visited Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Cotton and sons at Pierceton.

Senior Citizens enjoy slides on Icelandic trip The Milford Senior Citizens met in the fire stationpn Sunday, Jan. 9, with 28 members and guests present J6r the carry-in dinner. Theytable grace was given by Rev. Homer Burke. Mr. and Mrs. Kerry Price gave an informative travelogue on Iceland. They visited the people there that Mrs. Price had made her home with when she attended school in Iceland on an exchange program. The houses theYe are made of corrugated sheet metal because of the wind and a lot of rain. There are not many one family homes. Most houses are for two or three families. The biggest industry is fishing. In the summer there are 24 hours of daylight and in the winter 24 hours of darkness. They closed their program by Mrs. Price singing a song in the language of the people of Iceland. The business session followed and included the installation of officers by Amanda Davisson. New president Gladys Coy presided. New committees were appointed and reports given. The next meeting will be February 13. iNew Salem* | By MRS. ■■■wm 4 I 50TH ANNIVERSARY — Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bailey, Sr., Milford, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, Jan. 16. The Baileys were married on January 16, 1927, in the Methodist church in Lula, Miss., by Rev. W. B. Baker. They came to Milford in 1953, moving from Opelika, Ala. Mr. Bailey worked at Penn Controls in Goshen for 20 years, retiring in 1973. Mrs. Bailey worked at IXL, also inGoshen, for a number of years. The couple has three children, two sons, E. C. of Milford and Wilmer of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and one daughter, Mrs. Winford (Pat) Adams of Nappanee. They also have nine grandchildren. Their children will host an open house in their honor at the Milford fire station from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16. An invitation is extended to all friends, neighbors and relatives to share in this occasion.

Syracuse BPW has memorial for secretary Mrs. Edgar

The Syracuse Business and Professional Women’s Club met at a local restaurant on Tuesday, Jan. 11, with 19 members and three guests present Mrs. Bill Cobum, president, presided over the business meeting. Mrs. Eugene Henning, acting chaplain, led in a fitting memorial for Mrs. Everett Edgar, who was secretary of the club. She had been a very active member of the club since 1969. Mrs. Chet Elder has been chosen to replace Mrs. Edgar as secretary. Letters of appreciation were read by recipients who were helped financially during the Christmas season. Mrs. Paul Van Dyke was chosen as a new member of the club. Guests attending the meeting were Mrs. Keitha Carboneau, Mrs. Wanda Diamond and Mrs. Mary Shoemaker. The committee in charge of the ACCORD REACHED The United States and Egypt announced Nov. 7, 1973, that they would resume diplomatic relations. LEAGUE WINS The Catholic League under Count Tilly on Nov. 8, 1620, defeated the army of Frederick of Bohemia. ADAMS ELECTED The third presidential election ot the United States under the Federal Constitution was held and John Adams was elected president.
