1 YEAR AGO, JAN. 14, 1976 Former Syracusean, Steven M. Runge. 26, passed the Ohio State bar and was swam in in November of 1975. He became associated with the Kolb law firm in Franklin, Ohio, in September of 1975 and became a partner in the firm, now Kolb and Runge, on January 1 of this year.

The Tam Pattersons are joyed with their newborn daughter, Shanna Kay, and being a Bicentennial baby in that she was born in the first month, the seventh day, of ’7B, therefore 1-7-76. The Wawasee high school Future Farmers of America livestock judging team competed in the Indiana Duroc Association judging contest last Saturday at Marion with Kevin Coy winning the high individual honors. JAN. 12,1972 The children of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Welty of r 2 Syracuse honored their parents at a surprise 25th wedding anniversary celebration on Sunday afternoon, January 2, at the Turkey Creek Conservation clubhouse on the east side of Lake Wawasee. The couple was united in marriage on January 1, 1947 at Leo. The adult board of directors of the Lakeland Youth Center located at Syracuse held a year end meeting at which time Donald Deck, president, introduced the following area couples to serve three year terms: Col. and Mrs. Joseph Gray, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lemberg and Mr. and Mrs. Mike llmhaugh Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. early this mourning. The accident occurred at about 4 am. according to trainmaster H. K. Picklesimer. Townsmen Donald (Pee Wee and Wilbur (Butch) Niles, brothers and local contractors, said the wreck is “the worst we ve ever seen here. Marriages: Miss Nancy Lou Plank and Richard L. Coy, married December 23 and Miss Bonnie Lou Reidenback of Martie and Jerry Davis married on December 3. Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Kern in of r 1 Syracuse are the parents of a daughter, Deborah Ann, born on Thursday, Jan. 5, in the Goshen hospital. She tipped the scales at five pounds, 15 ounces. 26 YEARS AGO, JAN. 29,1957 Mr. and Mrs. Max Kleinknight, whose son was born January 5 at 9:45 pm. C.S.T. at the Goshen hospital were the first parents to register in the Baby Contest of the Journal sponsored by local merchants. Joseph Lynn Kleinknight has won for his parents and himself many gifts to be used now and in the future. Members of the Syracuse Plan Commission reelected all officers to continue duties during 1967 at its last meeting held in the home of Dr. Fred Clark. President is Dr. Clark; vicepresident, Ray Frevert and secretary, Mrs. Annabelle Coil. Elmer Stucky was reappointed to the commission for a four year term. Other members of the commission are Joseph R. Bushong, John Weatherhead and town board members J. Barton Cox, Harry Nicolai and Harry L. Coy. Mrs. Lucy Kegg left by plane Monday morning for Miami. Fla., arriving there in early afternoon. She will be the guest of Mr and Mrs George Snyd-r. owners-publishers of the Syracuse Journal when the Journal quarters were on the second floor of the Connolly building.

'Gator' to open at Pickwick
Burt Reynolds, who currently appears as a moonshiner in “Gator,” is one of the busiest stars in Hollywood, and his wearing of two hats in “Gator” is a challenge he really relishes. Since “The Longest Yard” —a true original about sports-in-prison — Burt has made a nonstop string of movies. In “W. W. and The Dixie Dancekings” be played a brash rural-South spellbinder who crashes the Grand Ole Opry. Immediately thereafter Burt donned white tie and tails to ring and dance — another first — with Cybill Shepherd in Peter Bogdanovich’s salute to Cole Porter and Ernst Lubitsch, “At Long Last Love.” Next Burt teamed with France’s top screen actress, Catherine Deneuve, to play an honest cop affiliated with MiddleAmerica hangups about his affair with a prostitute. Then Burt flew to the Guaymas-Mexico City locations of “Lucky Lady" with Liza Minelli and Gene Hackman, and almost immediately left for _Georgia to do “Gator”. Indeed, be has scarcely paused since “Deliverance” translated a competent actor into a superstar. Besides “White Lightning” he starred in “Shamus,” “Fuzz” and “The Man Who Loved Cat Dancing.”
Hunter safety classes to begin Feb. 1
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, many states, as many as 26, have now made it mandatory that all hunters pass a hunter’s safety program and be duly certified to hunt within their state boundaries. Siri, 16, of Syracuse, received a severe Mow to her nose during an accident Friday, when she lost control of her car and slid on icy roads into a telephone pole on the Epworth Forest Road, north of North weoster. Miss Siri was northbound when the mishap occurred. A total of 82,500 damages were estimated to the auto and 850 to the pole.
OPENS FRIDAY — Burt Reynolds stars in the title role of “Ga«u*,” United Artists release opening Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Pickwick Theatre. He plays an ex-moonshiner undercover agent in the adventure film which was produced by Jules V. Levy and Arthur Gardner. Reynolds directed the picture which was written by William Norton.

hunters who had previously scheduled hunting trips to western states have been forced to cancel their plans due to the lack of qualifications. Indiana currently does not require such a certificate to hunt, but will undoubtedly follow the trend within the next five to 10 years. Therefore, in an attempt to educate and keep the hunting in this area safe and enjoyable for ail, the Turkey Creek Conservation Club will again sponsor the hunter safety program beginning on February 1, at 7:30 pm. in the clubhouse on the east ride of Lake Wawasee. The classes will run from a minimum of eight hours to a maximum of 12 hours before a student is qualified. The age requirement is 12 years and older. The classes are open to both men and women.
