14 YEARS AGO. JAN. 17.1963 Mrs. Maurice 3eer of Milford has been appointed chairman of the Milford Mothers' March of Dimes campaign. It will be held for the next two weeks in January. Mrs. Beer and her six assistants, Mrs. Forrest Ramser, Mrs. Carl Shearer, Mrs. Robert Perkins, Mrs. Robert Hurd, Mrs, Lawrence Homan and Mrs. Victor Bee-, all of Milford, will go house to house soliciting for the campaign. Mr. and Mrs. Cletus Myers, former Milford residents, were pleasantly surprised in their new home at Syracuse Sunday evening when some of their Milford friends gave them a house-warming, taking with them a pot-luck lunch and a gift for the Myerses. Five Milford boys were involved in a two-car accident just south of Leesburg on road 15 Saturday while en route to the county tourney semi-finals. Driving his father's 1961 Ford was Mike Zimmerman, a Milford Trojan star. He attempted to go around a 1957 Ford driven b’Mrs. Ivan Ann Spitler of Churubusco. The Zimmerman car slid into the Spitler car while passing, and both cars ended up in the ditch on the east side of road 15. In the Zimmerman car were Raud Estep, John Hare,

London’s famous and beautiful Crystal Palace, familiar to all Americans who have visited the metropolis, was destroyed by flames recently, the loss being placed at about $7,000,000. 60 YEARS AGO, JAN. 18.1917 A bill, giving the women the right to vote has been drafted and is soon to be introduced into the legislature. Should the bill pass the way it is drafted, it will give the women the right to vote at any election, and the right for any candidate, or on any question other than the right to vote on constitutional amendments. She may vote to ratify a constitutional amendment, but not to amend. She shall cast her vote in a separate ballot box from the men, but all votes will be counted together. While the bill is not clear on that point, it is presumed that women will vote at different precincts from the men. About 40 girls who work in the Pierceton Overall factory at Pierceton, which is a branch of the Warsaw factory, walked out one day last week and the sewing machines were at a stand still. The trouble arose over the appointment of an inspector. Miss Florence Blosser was taken from the Warsaw factory as inspector, and the Pierceton girls objected, saying they would not have Miss Blosser as their inspector. and if a Pierceton lady " could not be appointed, they would walk out, and they did! Unemployment claims are up The number of unemployment insurance claims filed in Indiana last week was 84,348, up 7,840 from the week before, according to the employment security division. John F. Coppes ; ESD director, said today that although 489 fewer initial claims were filed, regular continued claims were up by 4,385 as vacation and inventory layoffs remained in effect. All regular claims totaled 63,034, he said, compared with the week before figure of 59,175. Extended benefits decreased 120 Borrow show to be January 22 The Northeast Indiana Barrow Show will be held Saturday, Jan. 22, at Producer’s Livestock Market, south of Columbia City. Hogs will be judged on foot, then shipped to Routh packing slaughtered and carcass data collected to determine carcass winners.
