'Twas the Day of the Wednesday club festivities By MRS. E. L. FOS BRINK Tw as the week before Christmas when Wednesday Club met For a holiday party we ll not soon forget. The site of the gala was Sudlows' Charm House, Where jovial John and Ann, his dear spouse. Had surely been stirring while decking the halls... As well as the fireplace . windows... and walls .. With a choice collection of decorations Displayed with good taste and rare innovations. The members were all ushered in (Such resplendence!) By two multi-talented parking attendants. Who later emerged as Johnny and Connie. . She's the Sudlows' daughter .. and equally bonny Though visions, like sugarplums, danced round our heads. We acted as though we were thoroughbreds While our president, Mrs. Stan Emerick, held a meeting so brief twas unparalleled Instead of our gift exchange, we decreed The equivalent sum would be sent post-speed To the Cardinal Center in Warsaw, where Contributions are needed for holiday fare. Twas also decided without (£lay To arrange for an “Open Bible display” at the Mail-Journal office in Syracuse. To whom we extend our ‘‘Merci Beaucoups.” The program that day was in capable hands; Mary Bushong told customs of other lands Where Christmas traditions, their legends and art All differ from ours, but still warm the heart. Then what to our wondering eyes did appear But our hostess announcing “Refreshments! Good cheer!" We sprang from our chairs, to the dining room tore... Then gasped as we viewed both the food and decor More rapid than eagles, all 20 of us Including Jeanne Jones, an associate-plus . . . Devoured the treats, which were all topflight. With utter abandon ... as well as delight ’ Though our hostess and all of her fine committee ' Rate thanks more replete than this parodied ditty, To them .. and our readers, if you’re still in sight Happy Christmas to all!
