She will spend the summer months in the apartment of her Lake Wawasee home and nine months of the year in Muncie. Chuck's association with the C. S. Myers Ford Agency will continue, but he will also accept responsibilities with a churchaffiliated college in its estate endowment program. A noteworthy birthday celebration for one of Syracuse's oldest residents will be November 25. Falling on Thanksgiving this year will be the 92d birthday of Arnold Pfingst, 16 North Shore Dr., Syracuse. Mr. Pfingst’s only comment about this event is that Rev. Phil Frew, minister of the Syracuse Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church, shares the same birthday date. Lakeland residents are reminded to take a few hours Sunday. If so. you’ll be interested in this story. Don Deaton, r 2 Silver Lake, is owner and president of Micon Laboratories. Inc., 320 North McKinley street, Warsaw. He also has a weight problem. Don weighed 485 pounds a few months ago. And when he fell and injured his legs, he was hospitalized briefly at Kosciusko Community hospital. The folks there put him on crutches and talked to him about his weight. They got to Don and he went on their prescribed diet. Deaton eats his lunch and dinner at the hospital now. and it shows On Monday of this week he ‘ reported he had lost 85 pounds. "That’s not bad.” he chuckles, “but 1 have 200 more pounds to lose. I want to get down to 200 pounds.” He says his top weight was 495 pounds and attributes ail of it to “simply overeating ” He told how he finished his evening meal most nights, then ate a pound erf cheese, a pound of cold meat, a quart of ice cream and a dish pan of popcorn. Compared to that, those skimpy meat patties at the hospital look mighty small, be admits. Gals of the firemen s auxiliary outdid themselves again with all their baked goodies, bazaar items, and the like, on Saturday, and proceeds will go to the firemen for needed items and equipment June Penick informed us the auxiliary has also taken on another community effort with the acquisition of 25 area children whose families are on welfare, in hopes of sharing Christmas with the youths. Currently being accepted at the dispatcher's office are good toys, new clothing, canned goods, candies, etc. and all contributions will be delivered the week before Christmas A fund raising effort has been enacted for the family of Danny Jones of Syracuse. Danny’s oldest son. Danny, seven, has been hospitalized for over five weeks in the Lutheran hospital in Fort Wayne with two inoperable brain tumors. Young Danny's medical expenses have mounted very quickly, plus there are three younger children in the family Interested local Syracuse residents are presently searching for help from local organizations
and citizens. Jim Caskey, president of the State Bank of Syracuse, has agreed to cooperate with the fund raising efforts and has established an account for any monies collected. Anyone who would like to help may send donations to the State Bank of Syracuse, in care of the Danny Jones Fund. GRADUATES — Airman Douglas D. Pollock, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul D. Pollock of r 4 Syracuse, has graduated at Sheppard AFB. Texas, from the US Air Force technical training course for aircraft maintenance specialists. Airman Pollock, who *ai trained to maintain, repair and service aircraft currently in use by the air force, is being assigned to Mac Dill AFB. Fla., for duty with a unit of the tactical air command. Completion of the course enables the airman to receive academic credits through the community college of the air force. Airman Pollock is a 197$ graduate of Wawasee high school. He was formerly a corporate banking officer, dealing with major central Indiana businesses. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Yoder of Elkhart, formerly of Goshen.
