1 YEAR AGO. NOV. IS. 1975 Two Syracuse men died of injuries sustained in a head on collision on Indiana 13 south of Syracuse near Bonnie Brae Manor around 10 am. Thursday. Dead at the scene of a crushed chest and internal injuries was John (Jack) Calkins, 67, of 618 South Front street in Syracuse. Driver of the other vehicle. Ross Osborn. 84, Lake Wawasee, died Friday morning at Goshen hospital of complications of injuries which included a broken pelvis. Joel Burkholder, a senior at Carthage college, Kenosha, Wis., and son of Bob Burkholder formerly of Syracuse, has been chosen for inclusion in the 1974-75 edition of“ Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges ” Mr. and Mrs Jack Vanderford have returned from a three week western trip including a stop at Las Vegas. 5 YEARS AGO. Carlson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Carlson, 401 John street, Syracuse. Young John Hulley fired a firm 68 in competition at Polk Junior college, Fla., recently to set a new record, and assisted the college golfing team to also set a new team record. Dave Van Lue has been named by coach Don Storey as one of the three outstanding Wawasee high school football players. Dave is a member of the senior executive council, national honor society and Future Teachers of America. He has played in the pep band for three years and the concert band for four years. The eleventh and twelfth grade Home Ec class gave a dinner for Mr and Mrs Glen Longenbaugh and Mr. and Mrs, Charles Garner. Mrs. Heaton, the Home Ec teacher, and her husband also were guests. NOV. 19. 1931 Wednesday morning, C. W. Howard's truck and Jonn Butler’s Whippet coach crashed head on, on the curve near
Sargent’s hotel. Millard Hire was driving for Howard. Hire was knocked unconscious and John Butler had one finger broken and received a bruised leg. Members of Syracuse basketball squad are: J. Legionnaires have annual fall festival The annual fall festival of Legion Post 253 will be held Saturday, Nov. 20, in the North Webster Legion hall from 5 to 8 p.m. A turkey and ham supper with a salad bar and pie will be served. “Wilderness Family film destined for success.” These are the words of the Atlanta Journal which are being echoed by theater managers and critics nationwide. “The Adventures of the Wilderness Family,’’ breaking house records whenever it has shown, has gn ssed sll million in its first 10 weeks of initial release. The (G)Rated “Wilderness Family’’ attracts the kind of following that hasn't been seen since “The Sound of Music.” Guild Enterprises of New York reports that “Wilderness Family" broke the house record at the 450-seat Guild theater. New York, with a phenomenal $35,106 gross in seven days, and at the New York Embassy with a gross of $34,882 while playing with 88 additional theaters in the New York area. “Variety” confirms Zion chapel to have thank offering day Zion Chapel United Brethren is having its annual thank offering day on Sunday, Nov. 21. The event is traditionally the Sunday before Thanksgiving. Mrs William (Iona) Wood will be the guest speaker. She is the executive secretary for United Brethren Missions at Huntington. Mrs. Wood is married to a former pastor of Zion Chapel. Rev. Wood pastored the church about 20 years ago There will be a carry-in dinner at the House of Friendship, across the road from the church. French fryer on fire at Frog Tavern Syracuse firemen were called to the Frog Tavern to extinguish flames occuring in a french fryer from overheated grease on Sunday afternoon at 4:53 p.m. The fryer was removed to the outside to prevent further damages.

Milford Senior Citizens enjoy Thanksgiving The Milford Senior Citizens met in the fire station on Sunday, Nov. 14. with 48 members and guests present The tables were decorated in keeping with Thanksgiving and the bountiful meal included turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. Ervin Orban, the Lakeland orchestra instructor, and his wife presented a musical program for the afternoon’s entertainment. He played the violin and was accompanied on the piano by his wife. After the program a business meeting was held. Edith I. Baumgartner reported a number of articles had been made for the veterans home and hospital at Marion. Items were also made for the EMT ambulance. These items are made at the Chatter Box. The next meeting will be on December 5. instead of December 12, with the program being on flower arranging

'Amahl' on spring schedule at IUSB
“Amahl and the Night Visitors,” Gian Carlo Menotti’s charming opera about a little boy’s encounter with the three Wise Men of Bethlehem, will be produced next spring by the Indiana university at South Bend division of music.
