Small slide goal for Post Cereal box top collection Syracuse elementary school has begun a collection drive aimed at acquiring a smaller slide designed for kindergarten or first grade children. The slide would be placed in a play area to be set aside for the sfnaller children. The slide is available free through the ‘‘Box Tops for Fun N Fitness” in exchange for 14,175 box tops from Post Cereals Jim Ryun. former world record holder for the mile, is the special projects director for this program Ryun is a long-time supporter of good school fitness programs and said, ‘‘Our youth deserve the very best physical fitness program we can give them, and I am honored to be

part of this worthwhile effort from Post Cereals.” "The Syracuse PTO will sponsor our participation in this worthy program,” stated principal Robert D. Hamman. “We are most grateful to have the support and assistance of this active organization. We hope the parents and patrons of our school will respond as they have to similar programs in the past few years”. Mrs. Kent (Kay) Hare, PTO president. “We are delighted to be able to help the school get needed equipment for the small children. We hope all our friends will help us reach our goal by saving and turning in any Post Cereals box tops." Principal Hamman felt that 14.175 box tops was not an unreasonable goal, since the program runs until March 31 and the school's enrollment has risen to nearly 600 students. He did want to emphasize, however, that neither the PTO nor the school are endorsing Post Cereals as better cereals than other brands, nor are they asking anyone to switch brands. They are merely asking that anyone who uses Post Cereals save the boxtops and take or send them to the school. More than two years ago, Mrs. Reinholt’s students decided newspapers were being wasted and began a collection and recycling project. From the start, one ton of the papers were collected each week. Two green collection boxes sit on the parking lot of the school and the Lakeland Youth Center where people can dispose of Wrong name was listed In last week's paper the list of national merit scholarship “Commended Students” carried the name of Pat McMillian. This name is incorrect. The WHS senior who was named to the list was Patricia McQuillian. North Webster volleyball teams stop Milford The North Webster junior high girls volleyball A and B teams won their second matches of the season Wednesday against Milford. The B team won a quick match in two games of 15-4 and 15-3. their newspapers. The papers are then taken to Thermton plant in Fort Wayne, where they are recycled into insulation. Syracuse elementary is then paid for all of the papers it sends and the money is used for school equipment. A spiral slide was purchased by the school the first year of the program and saddle mates bought last year, along with a baseball backstop. “This year we hope to get a new merry-go-round and maypole,” Mrs. Reinholt said. For the children’s efforts in 1974, a presentation was made in the Syracuse school gym of a PRIDE pennant from the department of public instruction. The pennant is awarded to persons who undertake a project for conserving energy.
