Club celebrates 75th anniversary

The celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Wednesday Afternoon chib of Syracuse was held in a North Webster restaurant on September 22. Mrs. Stan Emerick presided at the luncheon meeting. Mrs. Ralph Thornburg welcomed all present and told some of the history and activities kA the Club since it was established in 1901. Four charter members — Mrs. R. E. Thornburg. Mrs. J. M. Rapp. Mrs A Siders Francis and Mrs A. A. Pfingst — were honored since they were members when the club was federated on September 19. 1922. A song, whose verses were composed by Mrs. E L. Fosbrink to the tune of “Dearie." was sung by Mrs. Fred 0 Clark in honor of these four members. Mrs. Wales Macy read “Club Fever.” which humorously explained the perils of entertaining the club members Other former and associate members who attended were Mrs. William T. Jones. Mrs. Paul Warner. Mrs. Kenneth Harkless and one guest, Mrs. Margerie Niccum The entertainment was three muscial selections by the Wawasee high school barber shop quartet directed by Mrs. Ralph Bushong. The four singers were Joel Popenfoose. Gary Brown. Tim Hamman, and Steve Badskey. The meeting was closed with the Mizpah benediction Vickie Schmucker receives pharmacy license Sept. 23 Vickie Schmucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Don Arnold of Milford, was among 270 new Ohio pharmacists who received pharmacy licenses at the 12th annual licensure ceremony sponsored by the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association, Thursday. Sept. 23. The presentation of the official licenses took place at a luncheon honoring the licensees, at the Neil House Hotel in Columbus Anthony Stasio, chief counsel of advocacy of the small business administration, in Washington, D. C., addressed the newly licensed pharmacists, outlining both the difficulties and opportunities facing the professions and small business in America in the 1970 S-1980 S Harold Klawitter, president of the Ohio Board of Pharmacy, presented the pharmacists with their official licenses Irving S. Feuer, chairman of the executive board of the Ohio State Pharmaceutical Association, and Frank Kunkel, executive director of the Ohio Board of Pharmacy and 1976 president of the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy, also addressed the new pharmacists and officially inducted them into their profession.

For best results, serve just as the ice crystals are disappearing PINEAPPLE CAKE Two cups flour. 14 cups sugar, 2 tsp. soda. 2 eggs. 1 number 2 can crushed pineapple, untrained. Mix flour, sugar, soda, eggs, and pineapple; beat well and pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 pan. Combine 4 cup brown sugar. 4 cup shredded coconut. 4 cup chopped nuts; mix well and sprinkle over cake batter. Bake at 350 for 40-45 min. TOPPING 1 stick butter, 1 cup sugar. 1 small can evaporated milk. Boil 2 minutes. With fork make holes in cake. Pour warm topping over cake.

Attend Versailles Pumpkin Festival Faye Hollar of Milford attended the Pumpkin Festival in Versailles Friday afternoon and Saturday She was accompanied by Mr and Mrs Wilbur Lane of Fort Wayne, formerly of Versailles. Delta Kappa Gamma initiates members The first meeting of Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was held Saturday, Sept. 25, in the International Friendship House in Warsaw. Miss Dorothy Van Cleve conducted the initiation ritual for the following candidates: Mrs. Charles Fawley of Leesburg, Mrs. Paul Rush of Syracuse and Miss Eunice Thompson of Pierceton. Miss Van Cleve was assisted by Miss Katherine Garn of Plymouth. Mrs. Larry McKee of Argos and Mrs. Richard Ditmer of Syracuse. The president, Mrs. Darrell Phillips, conducted the business meeting. Committee members were introduced. Miss Florence Long of Pierceton was reported ill. Miss Long is a chapter member of Alpha Mu Chapter and was also a charter member of the first Delta Kappa Gamma to organize in Indiana. Miss Katherine Garn presented the program, using her hobby of more than 30 years as her subject. “American History as Portrayed in Glass”. She displayed many interesting pieces. The next meeting will be November 6 in Argos. Local coed receives award at Milligan MILLIGAN COLLEGE. Tenn. — Rebecca Replogle, a junior from Milford, has been awarded an honor scholarship at Milligan college. The award was presented in recognition of academic achievement during her sophomore year. Miss Replogle is ranked first in her class academically. An English major, Miss Replogle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Replogle, r 1 Milford. She also has been active in Dorm council, Christian Service club and placed second place in the annual “Purpose of Man” essay contest.

1 \ I SELECTED FOR TRAINING — Airman Diane K. Rucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold J. Stoffel of r 4 Syracuse, has been selected for technical training at Sheppard AFB, Texas in the air force aircraft maintenance field. The airman recently completed basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas and studied the air force mission, organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. Airman Rucker attended Wawasee high school, Syracuse. Her husband, airman Ronald E. Rucker, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Rucker of 23918 CR Elkhart. Booked and held ’’ on $1,500 bond A North Webster man booked on Sunday morning and held on $1,500 bond was charged with public intoxication and possession of marijuana. Kevin L. Kern, 19, Was found passed out on the front seat of a car parked on CR 750 N and 300E by county police. A report received by the police led them to the parked car. Also found were a plastic sack filled with marijuana in Kern’s shirt pocket, a medicine box containing five red pills and two larger white pills, a package of cigarette papers and empty beer cans on the front floor board of the car.
