Real estate valuation in Turkey Creek could reach S4O million, or perhaps as much as $42 million, with the new re-assessment. This word comes from township assessor Harry VanHemert. Harry states assessors and their assistants will meet with the county assessor at Warsaw tonight (Wednesday), making up the land committee, to work out uniform standards of assessing. For instance, in the 1968 assessment lake frontage on Lake Wawasee was S2OO per front foot (and it’s much more today), while frontage on Winona Lake stands at S3O per front foot Land along road 13 south of Syracuse is at SIOO per front foot and as low as $lO on road 15 north of Warsaw, VanHemert states Re-assessing will begin in Turkey Creek township on October 4 with four or five teams measuring all buildings in a project that will last nearly a year. Incidentally, the present valuation of Turkey Creek twp., including the town of Syracuse, stands at $27,190,040 Bob Farber and his street department crew have been doing a real Job with their new blacktopping machine. They put it to work on the limited access road in Wawasee Village. •‘Next thing you know they ’ll be blacktopping the alleys.’’ someone said That might be a bad idea, one that former Warsaw mayor Mike Hodges put to work Warsaw probably has more blacktopped alleys than any other town its site in the state. Dave Smith of North Shore Drive, Syracuse, an insurance field manager, met TV and movie personality Louie Nye at the Stable Influence, an Indianapolis eating establishment on South 86th street. Monday night Ixraie was in town to do some TV’ commercials for the Hoosier Coal It Oil Co. There’s a light-hearted, smiling Syracuse man walking around, a mere shadow of his former self at 240 pounds, having shed 60 pounds through a rigid regimen of diet Tonight Kosciusko county GOP big wigs are expected to turn out for a Hall of Fame dinner at the Shrine building at the fairgrounds, honoring former second district congressman Charles A. Halleck among others “who have made outstanding contributions to good government.’’ r ’ Actually, it’s a fund raiser, at $lO per couple Chuck and Mary Stafford of the Windjammer (on road 13 at the south edge of Syracuse) are waiting for approval of their three-way license, which they h<»P* will spark their otherwise good restaurant business. Their wine license has expired and they failed to have it renewed in favor of the three-way license. (Incidentally, if you haven’t tried their clam, you don’t know what you're missing!) An Hem in this column last week about discontent in the county highway department over the county council’s austerityprogram brought comment from councilman Ron Sharp of Syracuse. Sharp admitted to "paying more attention" to the highway department, to looking closely at overtime pay. He did say, however, that employees got a pay raise this past year He said no new department trucks had been purchased since 1973. but that the department now has $165,000 at their disposal for new trucks. Councilmen Sharp. Tom Anglin. Carl Latta and Eldred Metzger make up the "young turks" who promised in the election to be taxpayers* watch dogs. Don’t be surprised if the council takes on the county wetfare department next in an effort to. reduce its payroll.
A definite improvement is surfacing of the access road at the south part of town between the Tool Rental and Star Store business and the intersection south near the American Legion home.

Two new apartments have gone up on South Huntington street on the site formerly housing Arnold’s Grocery a number of years ago. Barb Bradway. r 4 Warsaw, of Syracuse, won first prize in Popsicle Industries’ "Get
In Touch With America” sweepstakes, and for it received four 30-day "Greyhound” Ameri-passes of unlimited travel throughout the U. S. and Canada. They plan a mid-December tour of the U.S. “when all the crops are in.’’ Barb has taken to
country living quite well, having grown up in NYC. She claims to having "the best and biggest tomatoes and melons." Three new homes now under construction in Woodla.nd Acres southwest of Syracuse of the $40.000-850,000 variety.
Larry Baumgardt of That Sailboat Place reported that five volunteers in the United Fund northern community division are from the State Bank of Syracuse. Baumgardt said that the bank is getting behind the campaign
which ends October 6. "It’s a conscious effort that started with Jim Caskey (bank president) and they’re really giving it a punch.” As far as Baumgardt knows, this concentrated effort is something new in the Syracuse area.
The new 1977 cars are on display in local showrooms. Better get out and take a look. They’re shorter, weigh less, consume less gas per mile, but cost a little more. Locally, Chevrolets are on display at W. L. Cutter Inc., and Fords at C. S. Myers.
