11 YEARS AGO. SEPT. 21.1M2 Milford postmaster Eugene W. Felkner said today he had received a letter from William H. Neal, National Director of the U.S. savings bond program, commending the local post office for its efforts in the promotion and sale of U.S savings stamps. Phil Campbell. Milford D-X bulk truck driver, wrecked his tank truck at 8 am. Tuesday on road 15 north of Milford, a quarter mile south of the 6 and 15 road junction. He was driving north with a load of 1100 gallons of gas when a front tire blew out. He traveled 420 feet along the road before turning over. Campbell was not hurt. Miss Sharmane Sue Young, two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Young of Milford, was honored at a family dinner held September 14 at their home. She received a special gift from Mr and Mrs Klotzbier and son. Werner, of Munich, Germany. MILFORD MAN BOOKED AT THE COUNTY JAIL Hector De La Fuente, 26, Milford, was among those booked in the Kosciusko county jail over the week end. He was arrested on a charge of public intoxication and held on $l5O bond.

Miller of Milford, Ind., has been promoted to the rank of cadet staff sergeant at the US Air Force academy. Cadet Miller, a member of the class of 1979. has also been appointed a squadron guidon bearer. Assignment to this position will provide invaluable job and leadership experience. The cadet is a 1975 graduate of Wawasee high school Firemen respond to two calls The Syracuse firemen responded to two fire alarms during the past week. Electrical wiring caused a fire in a 1976 Chevrolet Malibu belonging to Joe Anderson. 712 Pittsburg St., Syracuse. The fire causing SSO damages was extinguished by the time the Syracuse fire trucks arrived. Fire broke out in the rear of a 1971 30 foot Continental travel trailer owned by Bill Owens, r 2 Syracuse, one half mile south of SR 6 on CR 133. Damages amounted to Si .000 to the trailer and its contents. Owens had the fire slowed when the firemen arrived They extinguished the fire caused by a short in the 12 volt system. Sgt. PURCHASE TRUCK — Members of the Milford volunteer fire department purchased an equipment van truck with a loan. The department sold the van to the Van Buren township fire department for one dollar. Proceeds from the firemen’s chicken barbecue Sunday, Oct. 3. and donations will be used to pay for the loan. Kosciusko Retired Teachers hear Literacy Council speaker
The Kosciusko County Retired Teachers met recently at the Shrine building, Kosciusko county fairground. Warsaw, for the first meeting of the 1976-77 year with 105 members and guests present. Following the social hour, luncheon and the awarding of door prizes, the meeting was called to order by the newly elected president. Colonel Likens of Pierceton. Program chairman Lester Davis called on Mrs. David Poor, a teacher of the Kosciusko County Literacy Council. Inc., to present her program. She said that the County Literacy Council work began in 1973 when the need to reach the functional illiterate was recognized in the county. This school is located in the Presbyterian church annex in Warsaw. The school is attempting to reach and teach more of the illiterate that need help, so that they can read and help themselves in life. She further explained, by showing pictures, of the needs of the school, such as more teachers and the need to locate more illiterate in the county. President Likens gave a brief

inaugural talk to the teachers before beginning the business meeting. Mrs. Marie Klare, retiring secretary, gave her report of the dedication meeting and the July meeting. Leonard Barnhart gave a report on memberships and the members part in the IRTA; on pension results and changes made by the state legislature in the past sessions; and what has yet to be done. He also went over the cost of living, further needs and the need to increase membership in the IRTA. All members are urged to be present at the October 12 meeting.

Marshal attends SWAT training Milford town marshal Melvin Jordan was one of approximately 40 law enforcement officers attending a program of “Special Weapons and Training" during September. The refresher course was a three-day session instructed by FBI agent Ray Piper, Sidney, at Beeson’s firing range near Atwood and the old Warsaw freshman high school building. Each officer participated in approximately 30 hours of special training with an emphasis on conditioning and hand-to-hand combat. ? The sessions were sponsored by the Kosciusko County Fraternal Order of Police.
