Illinois families migration established Apostolic church

The Apostolic Christian church began in Milford from a migration of Illinois families to Indiana. Through a farm real estate business of the Neff brothers. Illinois families were encouraged to purchase land here. The first to do so was Rev. Edward Haab in 1904, who became the first pastor of the church. At that time, services were held in a residence, converted into a church assembly room. The George Haab family are the present owners of the residence Adolph Rudin willed a portion of land he owned in northwest Milford in 1906 for a church site. When the church was built on this site, it was made approximately 34 by 66 feet with an assembly room to accommodate about 150 occupants. A dining room and Sunday school were also built inside the structure. Inexpensive horse and carriage barns were built to the north and west of the lot given for the church Horse and buggy transportation was the only means at that time Recorded in the auditor’s office on October 6,1906 were the names of the first church trustees. Listed are Edward Haab, Adolph Rudin and Henry Rassi. Assisting Rev. Haab with the ministry was Micheal Metzger around the year 1907, and his daughter Mary cared for the church. With a few assistants, a German school was conducted in the church during 1908 and 1909 The first Sunday school teachers at the Apostolic Christian church were Andrew Rapp and Fred Wuthrich. As the years went by, more families moved into the area and the congregation kept expanding The original church building, built in 1906, was remodeled in 1940, and again in 1960, when a Sunday school was added. Doctrine From New Testament Teachings from the New Testament provide the doctrine and creed of the church. The church aims to retain and practice the discipline taught in the New Testament churches, which were founded and established by the apostles upon the teachings of Christ. Required for membership in the church is faith in Christ, the practice of faith and repentance and remission and forsaking of sin before baptism by immersion Devotion to the Lord, the Word and the church is expected from all members. And the evidence of conversion is seen in the conduct and speech and living a separated life from sin and worldliness by the individual. Church members do not serve on a murder trial jury and serve in a non-combat capacity in the military service.
