14 YEARS AGO. AUG. 30. 1962 At a recent meeting of the Milford town board the board's members established an 11 p.m. curfew in the town for persons under the age of 21. Robert Willson, newly elected president, stated that the curfew resulted mainly because of a street fight among young men in the town last Saturday night. Frederick G. Haab, son of Mr. and Mrs. George E. Haab of r 2 Milford, is undergoing nine weeks of basic recruit training at the Naval Training Center. Great Lakes, 111. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Arnold of Milford have purchased the property which formerly belonged to the Emil Sorenson estate. The Arnolds will move into their newly purchased home shortly. AUG. 28, 1952 Miss Mary Ann Doty was graduated Sunday afternoon from Saint Josephs hospital school of nursing at South Bend. There were twenty-two in the class Loyal T Marker of South Bend has been employed as athletic coach and teacher of social studies, replacing Bob who has received orders for army induction on Sept. 10. Mrs. Herman Miller, adult leader, and the Happy-Go-Lucky 4-H club girls enjoyed an outing Tuesday evening in observance of the completion of their year's work. They played miniature golf, attended Pickwick theatre at Syracuse, and had refreshments later in Milford Girls attending were Frances and Ruth Stieglitz. Sylvia and Carol Ann Gay. Irene Wuthrich. Marcia Vanderveer. and Carol Stutzman. Hoy Jones and his father Emeral Jones plan to leave Sunday for Orb Dausman's place near Rice Lake. Wise., to spend a week or 10 days fishing. Hoy will close his iron and welding shop during that time The township advisory board met with Trustee John Augsburger Tuesday evening. Aug 26. and approved the budget for 1953. assisting. 40 YEARS AGO, AUG. 28,1936 Mechanized U.S. Army forces, including 500 combat vehicles and approximately 1500 men. camped 2 1 ? miles north of Milford, Thursday night. The camp was located just north of the Druckamiller woods, on the west side of Road 15. The troops were returning to their base at Indianapolis and Camp Knox. Ky., after spending eight days in Michigan. Lee R. Cory, Milford's Duck Raising King, is now erecting his second duck house, measuring 30 x 60 feet, and which will house 1,800 ducks. At present he has on hand 2,500 ducks, and has contracted Mr 600 more every two weeks from’ia St. Louis, Mich., duck farm beginning November 1 and continuing for one year. Miss Althamae Love has been assisting at the local telephone exchange. Miss Marybelle Lentz, popular Milford young lady, has entered the Queen contest, by which the most popular young lady will be selected as Queen of the Mardi Gras, to be held at Syracuse. Sept. 2, 3. and 4. Milford businssmen are considering holding a fall festival again this year, and will likely call a special meeting soon to decide the matter, and to discuss further plans, providing the group favors the festival. Car collides with buggy A car driven by Marvin R Risner, 18. r 2 Milford, on SR 19, four and one-half miles south of Nappanee. Thursday, Aug. 26. collided with a horse and buggy when Kathy Yoder, 19, r 2 Nappanee, driver erf the buggy, was unable to control the horse, according to Indiana state troopers James Kaylor and Michael Pershing The horse drawn buggy was pulling from a private driveway when the incident occurred Yoder and passengers in the buggy were treated at a Nappanee physician’s office for ininjuries sustained in the mishap. Kathy Yoder suffered a laceration of the left knee, Sherry Yoder, six, r 2 Nappanee, lacerations of the face and both arms and Mary Ann Miller. 18, 69185 SR 19. Nappanee, abrasions of the left elbow and facial lacerations Risner, driver of the auto, sustained a bruised elbow and multiple abrasions. Two other passengers in the car also sustained injuries. The northbound car. driven by Guy W Fisher. 26. r 2 Syracuse, stopped for US 6 and then proceeded into the path of the westbound car, driven by Max L. Faurote. 34, Mid-Lake Trailer Park, North Webster Sheriffs Ptl. Richard Method investigated the mishap. No injuries resulted from the collision.

Driver flees the scene after accident Thursday

David E. Strouse, 23, r 1 Leesburg, fled the scene of an accident Thursday, Aug. 26, at - the intersection of US 30 and SR 15 north of Warsaw. The southbound Stroud auto on SR 15, slid into a car attempting to make a left turn onto SR 15, driven by Clifford B. Terry, 69, r 2 Leesburg. Strouse left the scene of the mishap on foot and was chased for a short distance by a witness to the accident. Strouse was apprehended by police and booked at the Kosciusko county jail on charges of driving while under the influence of intoxicating beverages and public intoxication. Assisting in the apprehension were Kosciusko county police patrolmen Alan Rovenstine, Roger Fellows, Warsaw city police cheif Jerry Johnson, police Sgt. Sarnie' Brown. Sgt. Jon Hershberger and Warsaw police patrolman Jerry Hatfield. Prior to assisting in the Five area residents pass broker’s exam Area students of the Beer Professional School of Real Estate who recently passed the broker’s exam are Julia Geverin. Irvin Miller. Terry White and Dan Pacheco, all of Warsaw, and Jim Gawthrop of Goshen. The school boasts the highest percentage of passing students taking the broker’s exam than any other school or course in the state. A passing score is 90 per cent. There are three sections of the school in Warsaw. Fort Wayne and South Bend, currently in session in preparation for the September exam. Dr. Ken Beer. Milford, a broker, is the director of the school and instructs many of the classes. yr ! ' d ACCEPTS POSITION — David Brown has accepted a position with the Clay ‘ County School Systems in Jonesboro, Ga., for this next year. He will teach vocational horticulture in the high school there. Dave is a 1971 graduate of Wawasee high school and received his BS degree in the school of agriculture at Purdue university in 1975. Jonesboro is located 15 miles south of Atlanta. Ga. Brown is the son of Mr. and Mr. Robert W. Brown of Milford. Parked car is damaged A parked car owned by Charles Lewallen, r 3 Syracuse, received no damage when it was struck by a car driven by William Bunn. Jr.. 31. Elkhart. Saturday. Aug 21. According to Syracuse police chief Ron Robinson, the accident occurred when Bunn was attempting to pull from a parking space. Both vehicles were headed south on South Huntington street in Syracuse Damage to the Bunn vehicle, was estimated at S3OO. Chosen honor guard Dennis Phebus, South Bend, nephew of Mrs Herbert Baumgartner. Milford, has been selected as an honor guard for President Gerald R. Ford Phebus is an air force military policeman presently stationed in Dallas, Texas. The 13 honor gurads serve a two-year term of duty. They travel with the president, protect him and perform at all official diplomatic functions. “We’re real excited about it.’’ said Mrs. Baumgartner Stookey residence damaged by vandals County police are investigating vandalism done to the Emra Stookey residence.
