lives at 607 North Huntington, Syracuse, recently completed the command and general staff officer course, non-resident-resident at the US army command and general staff college (CGSC), Fort Leavenworth, Kan. The graduates complete the first half of the course by correspondence or through US Army reserve school attendance. They then attend a period of resident instruction at the CGSC. The course is designed to prepare selected officers for high positions at division and command levels. Capt. Slabaugh is a 1955 graduate of Nappanee high school. He received a BS degree in 1964 from Indiana university, Bloomington. State Bank of Syracuse not broken into The State Bank of Syracuse was not broken into on Saturday, Aug. 21, as reported last week in this paper and at least one other paper. The report was taken from the police blotter. There was a break-in, however, at the Leeland Shores home owned by the bank. Someone broke the door down and stole several chandelliers, according to bank president James C. Caskey. The home, sitting high on the west bank overlooking Lake Elizabeth, has been sold to Mr. and Mrs. Chic Parren of Indianapolis. Mr. Parren is the new manager of Sleepy Owl. Donald Bedwell taken to KCH Donald Bedwell. 59, r 1 North Webster, was transported to Kosciusko Community hospital, where he is listed in fair condition as a heart patient, Thursday night, after he reportedly felll asleep while chiving his car on Backwater Rd., Tippecanoe Twp., and struck a utility pole, according to Kosciusko county police patrolman Alan Rovenstine. Bedwell was treated for lacerations of his arm and knee, resulting from the accident. Damage to the pole was set at $250 with no estimate of damage to the auto. Driver arrested after accident The arrest of Joe A. Robinson, 22. r 1 Leesburg, followed an accident on CR 2SOS, one-half mile east of SR 25 early Sunday morning, Aug. 29. He was charged with driving under the influence of intoxicating beveragte and public intoxication after the car he was chiving west on CR 250 went out of control, ran into a fence, slid into a ditch, and then stopped in the middle of the road, according to investigating officers, Kosciusko county police patrolman Gerry Moser and county reserve patrolman Jerry Eisaman. Estimated damage in the mishap was SIOO to the fence, owned by Harold Freich of Warsaw, and’ $2,500 to the Robinson auto. Robinson was released on SIOO bond.

Used parking meters on sale in Goshen

Used parking meters are still being sold by the city of Goshen but customers flow has slowed UP Those meters still for sale number <8 double beaded meters and 80 single headed ones, according to a story by Rod Hewe in the Friday, Aug. 27, issue of the Goshen News. The city began selling the meters in early July, with purchasers buying the meters from the clerk-treasurer at the city hall. Costs for the meters are $lO for a single and $25 for a double. Their purchase of meter receipt is then taken to the police department, where the meters are stared. Lt. Bobbie McGill, Goshen police department, said that the old meters are being sold because they cannot be repaired The meters were manufactured by a company which went out of business 10 years ago. McGill repaired the meters until the department ran out of parts. Meters on aide streets which were broken and not bringing in revenue were removed with meters on Third and Fifth streets. Approximately one-half of the city’s meters, or 240, were eliminated in the project. Fine rates were raised last May, as previously reported in The Mail-Journal, but the meter revenue has dropped about S3OO per month On the whole, with the combined income of meter money and the double fines for violations, the total is Hit-rwn acckfont causes S3OB damages John Hamilton, 23, Milford, was the victim of a hit-run accident on Armstrong Rd . one mile south and three miles west of North Webster, Saturday, Aug. 21. According to investigating officer, Kosciusko county police patrolman Jeff Bronsing, Hamilton said be was traveling west when a second car, heading east, creased the center line and struck his vehicle, then kept traveling. Damage to the Hamilton car was estimated at S3OO and Hamilton was treated and released from Kosciusko Community hospital for a bumped left knee.
