.805 levy set in county for 1977
The proposed budget for Kosciusko county for the year 1976. tax levies payable in 1977. has a levy of .805 and would raise $1,379,309 if approved as published. The budget appears elsewhere in this edition. The current county levy is 73 cents. The new budget seeks a levy of 39 cents for the general fund to raise $652,002 for the operation of the county in 1977. The current rate is 31 cents. The welfare department seeks a 112 rate to raise $187,302. The current rate is .115. A rate of .043 is sought in the health fund and would raise $71,889. The current rate for the health department is .025. A rate of five cents is sought in the cumulative bridge fund. The current rate is five cents. The rate would raise $83,592 in 1977. The property reassessment rate also remains the same, at three cents. It would raise $50,155. The levy in the cumulative courthouse fund also remains the same. It is 15 cents and would More CB units lifted in Syracuse Saturday Three more CB units were stolen last Saturday night. Aug. 14, from cars in the Syracuse area As with the thefts last Wednesday night, entry into the cars was obtained by using a coat hanger. Wendall Patton, 407 Medusa street, reported a theft at 10:27 am. of a Royal CB radio, estimated value $l4O. The unit had been removed from his car parked behind his house sanetime between 1:30 a m. and 10 a.m. early Sunday. A sharp, digital 23 channel CB set was removed from a locked pickup truck owned by Keith Oyer, Archibald. Ohio, from the Oakwood park area The set, valued at $l5O was taken after the driver’s side of the truck had been entered between 11 pm Satm lay and 9 am Sunday. Also at the Oakwood park hotel, a CB set was stolen between midnight and 7 a m. valued at $169 The unit was obtained from the locked car of Roland Sumney. 7915 Westminster drive, Fort Wayne The thefts are under investigation by police chief Ron Robinson and Louis Mediano.

The lower rate would raise $83,592 Kanata Manayunk executive board meets at Singers The regular monthly executive board meeting of the Kanata Manayunk property owners’ association was held at the Philip K. Singer home with president Mrs. Richard Bennett presiding Charles H. Purdum, Jr., reported the street signs purchased by the association have been delivered and will soon be erected. Petitions for blacktopping of area streets have been forwarded to the county highway department, but as yet no date has been set for completion of the project. General appearance of the neighborhood was discussed. All owners of vacant lots are urged to clean and trim their property. The fifth annual meeting of the entire membership will be held in November when a slate of officers will be presented. Richard Bennett, an accomplished pianist, entertained during the social hour. The next meeting. September 12. will be held at the Purdum residence. Horse-drawn wagon, Chicago driver collide A horse-drawn farm wagon, driven west on CR 700 N, one-half mile east of Leesburg, by Tom Everett, Sr., 74, r 2 Leesburg, was struck by a westbound car driven by Richard P. Pacholick. 16, of Chicago, when Pacholick attempted to pass the wagon at a curve. According to Kosciusko county police Lt. Richard Mikel, the youth told him that in passing the wagon he met an oncoming car and struck the wagon in getting back into the proper lane. No injuries resulted from the mishap and the farm wagon was not damaged. Damage to the car was estimated at S4OO.
Schneider elected president of Kiwanis International
Stanley E. Schneider, Crestline, Ohio, was elected president of Kiwanis International on June 23, at the worldwide service organization’s 61st annual convention in San Diego, Calif., according to Sherman Bryant, president of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland, North Webster. Schneider, who succeeds Lexington, Ky., real estate developer Ted. R. Osborn, will become chief spokesman for the over 282,000 Kiwanians in 6800 dubs located in 50 countries and geographical areas of the world. Osborn had held the presidency since October 1, 1975. An automotive retail and investment executive, Schneider had served as Kiwanis International president-elect for cne-year after his election in June 1975, at the 60th Kiwanis International convention in Atlanta, Ga. Schneider has alSio served one year as treasurer, one year as vice-president and two two-vear terms as trustee of Kiwanians International. He has been president of the Kiwanis Club of Crestline, Ohio, lieutenant governor and governor of the Ohio Kiwanis District, member and chairman of several district committees, and chairman of the Kiwanis International committees on inter-club relations and fellowship and membership development. He has also been a member of the International Committee on boys and girls work. He is a member of the Kiwanis International foundation’s board of trustees. Currently, Schneider is serving as a member of the executive committee of Kiwanis International; as chairman of the board committee on key clubs, and as a member of its committee on convention. A Kiwanian for 18 years, the new president has served two terms as a member of the city council of Crestline, has been a member of the county elections board and a member of the volunteer fire department. He Two-car accident in Thornburg lot Paul E. Thomas, 45, of Milford, backed his 1973 Ford from the curb in the Thornburg drug store parking lot, into a 1970 Ford driven by Pauline B. Hoover, r 3 Syracuse, at 2:35 p.m. Saturday, according to investigating officer Louis Mediano. Damage to the left rear of the Thomas car was $75 and $l5O to the left rear panel of the Hoover vehicle, officer Mediano estimated. Television antenna is missing A television antenna valued at SIOO was reported stolen by Mark Levernier r 1 Syracuse, from his house which is adjacent to the one he lives in. Theft of the 25-foot-pole, including the antenna and lead-in wire, which occurred between August 2 and August 9, went undiscovered until recently, when the incident was reported to Kosciusko county police Lt. Richard Mikel.
STANLEY E. SCHNEIDER was one of the principal organizers of the United Fund in Crestline and was chairman of a local school bond issue campaign. He is a member of the National Automobile Dealers Association, the National Guard Officers Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Marine Corps League, and the association of the United States Army. Schneider has also been active with local and area council affairs of the Boy Scouts. He is a past trustee and chairman of the commission on stewardship and finance fa the First United Methodist church. He and his wife. Millie, a fifth grade social studies teacher, have three daughters. Buggy-car in accident A horse-drawn buggy driven by Robert Mullet. 18, r 2 Milfad, was involved in an accident with a car driven by Donald L. Wolf. 34. of r 2 Milford. The accident occurred on CR 900 N, one-quarter mile east of CR 625 W. in Prairie township, Friday, Aug. 13. The Wolf vehicle was traveling east on CR 900 N behind a truck, accading to Kosciusko county police patrolman Richard Monk. Accading to Wolf, the.truck passed the horse and buggy and when he attempted to pass also the horse “spooked,” crossing the center line and causing the collision. No injuries resulted from the mishap. Damage was set at $1,115 to the buggy and $450 to the car. CB unit stolen A CB unit was stolen from a vehicle owned by Don Grawcock, 331 Medusa street. Syracuse. Monday night, Aug. 16. The 23 channel radio is valued at $155.95. Entry to the vehicle was obtained by using a coat hanger. Black leather wallet stolen Jo Ellen Stahley. 419 S. Harrison street Syracuse, repated a black leather wallet, belonging to Michael Mischler had been stolen from her car in front of her house Friday night, Aug. 6. The car was unlocked and the wallet contained over SIOO plus all identification.
