Wash., were unable to participate in the family celebration.

Girls' Stater reports to the Legion Auxiliary American Legion Auxiliary 223 of Syracuse met in regular session. Tuesday, July 27. First vice president Olive Bushong presided over the business meeting in the absence of president Rowene Breuer. Girls’ Stater Kim Beezley gave a report of her week at Girls’ State, June 13 to 20, on the Indiana State college campus, Terre Haute Betty Broekers reported on State Legion and Auxiliary joint convention in Indianapolis, July 15 through 18. Among comments overheard at the convention were. “This was the smallest and quietest convention in many years.” The auxiliary has hospital equipment to lend to anyone in need of such articles as a wheel chair, bed. walker, commode or crutches. Wawasee girls win Bth straight The Wawasee high school girls' fast-pitch softball team has won its eighth consecutive victory of the season. In the last two games Phyllis Horvath, pitcher, allowed only four hits and struck out a total of 14. The Warriorettes defeated IRV Friday, July 30, by a score of 9-3. Tammy Schumn. Barb Brouwer and Betsy Williams had three hits each. Goshen hospital was defeated Monday, Aug. 2. by the Wawasee girls, in a five inning game. The final score was 1.8-0. Horvath struck out eight of the Goshen batters who got only one hit off of her. The hitting for Wawasee was shared by Kathi Replogle. Betsy Williams, Nancy Shock and Phyllis Horvath. They each scored two hits. Mary Kitson and Betsy Williams both hit home runs. The Warriorettes will play again tonight, (Wednesday) against Plain and Fancy. A victory will insure the league championship for the girls. A loss would mean a play-off against Thompson’s. Saturday marks the beginning of a double elimination league tourney for the Wawasee team. Tourney games will be played Saturday, Sunday and all next week. 9 Dr. Jordan is visiting Milford Dr. G. Ray Jordan is visiting his son. Milford police chief Mel Jordan, while he is on vacation this week from the Hillsboro United Methodist church in Hillsboro. Va. where he serves as minister During his 29-year ministry. Dr. Jordan has served in the states of California. Indiana. Michigan and Virginia. He spoke Sunday, Aug. 1, at the Milford United Methodist church.

Marie Simon is USAF graduate SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Airman Marie A. Simon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald E. Cramar of r 1 Syracuse, has been assigned to Keesler AFB. Miss., after completing air force basic training. During the six weeks training ’at Lackland AFB, Texas the airman studied the air force mission, organization and customs and received special instruction in human relations. The airman is a 1968 graduate of Syracuse high school and attended Parkland junior college. Champaign, 111. Her husband, staff sergeant Larry G. Simon, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell Simon of Syracuse.

Historical society booth on display at county fair

The Kosciusko County Historical society has on display a booth in the manufacturerers building at the Kosciusko county fairgrounds this week. According to Marion Anglin and Athene Gawthrop, fair booth cochairmen, most of the items in the display come from the County Historical museum at Oswego, but some are from private collections. Valentines Over 100 valentines, ranging from elaborate Victorian to present day, will illustrate how the people of Kosciusko County have been remembering their loved ones for decades on Saint Valentines day. A ladies corner will feature several hand woven tapestries, different types of lace, quilts, a cradle and antique dolls. The gentlemen’s corner will have a buggy seat, a bear skin rug. a leather fire bucket and old fashioned tools for building bams. A silver spoon collection and pieces of centennial glass are some of the items on loan to the society for this week only. Society Goals The goals of the Historical society are to preserve, project and record county history. The

society is supported entirely by membership dues and fund raising projects undertaken by members. It receives no funds from the county or any government agency. Recent Projects Some recent projects of the society were saving the Tippecanoe River rest park west of Warsaw from private development by buying it from the Indiana State Highway commission. The land has an interesting history, once having been part of Chief Mota’s reserve. Compiling a history of how the Bicentennial was celebrated in Kosciusko county and working at various levels of state, national and local governments to give the historical landmarks of our county the recognition they deserve were other projects done by the group.
