He plans to so some remodeling and repairing on the house in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Larry Groves of r 1 Milford are the proud parents of a daughter, Tirzah Renea, born Tuesday. July 31, at Goshen General hospital. Tirzah Renea tipped the scales at six pounds and five ounces. Merlin Groves of Milford is the paternal grandfather and Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Tuterrow of Hagerstown are the maternal grandparents. Mr, and Mrs. Dale Mock. Jane and Jim, Diane Crafton, and Mr. and Mrs Eugene Blackbum. all of Milford, were Sunday supper guests of Mr. and Mrs Robert Holloway. Stevie and Vickie in their new home at Mentone. Saturday evening dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Laudeman and Max Alan of Urbana were Mrs Irvin Coy of Milford. Mr. and Mrs. David Clem and Bruce of Goshen, Mr. and Mrs Dale Sparklin of Syracuse lake. Following dinner the group attended the play. “The Merry Widow,” at the Wagon Wheel Playhouse at Warsaw. 24 YEARS AGO, JULY 31,1952 At the Kosciusko county 4-H camp held recently near Silver Lake, the camp staff gave its approval to Getrge Stookey, of Milford, as the outstanding or star camper for the boys this year. Susan Darr. Syracuse, was chosen star camper for the girls, with Frances Stieglitz given the honor of alternate star camper. Star campers may attend next year with all expenses paid. The engagement of Miss Barbara Beer and Donald McGowan has been announced by Miss Beer’s parents. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Beer The wedding date has not been set. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Harmon, r 2. Milford. Monday. July 28, at Murphy Medical Center. Warsaw. The infant weighed seven pounds, two ounces. Milford Merchants will be one
of the four teams playing in the district softball tourney to be held in Wabash late this week. The other teams are Reliable Oil, of. Wabash. Hunter Walton, of Warsaw, and Mentone Merchants. Considering their excellent record of winning games this season, 12 out of 15, the Milford Merchants have not been receiving enough publicity. Among the teams they have defeated are Wabash Oilers. 8 to 12, Columbia City, and Martindale’s Insurance, of Mishawaka, two times. 3* YEARS AGO, AUGUST 1,1948 Lloyd Coy, 14-year-dd son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Coy, had two toes on his right foot amputated at the McDonald hospital in Warsaw at about 9 o’clock on Wednesday morning erf this week His toes were mashed when his foot got caught in the conveyor at / the Milford Cement Products building, owned by Leonard VanderZand. - Miss Kathryn Stiffler, whose marriage to Ren Clark will take place August 18th, was the guest of honor at a shower given by Mrs. Dan Levemier, Miss Joan Bushong, and Miss Annabelle Doty, Friday evening, at the home of Mrs. Mary Thomas. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Judkins entertained ten senior members of the Milford school band at a lawn party of their home Saturday evening. Croquet, ping pong and bingo were played and light refreshments were served. The seniors were given their letters. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Young were also guests. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Coy and Devoe Hawley completed a course at South Bend last Tuesday on the planning and installing of kitchen units in hpmes. The course was given by the Youngstown Kitchen company. an item handled by the Coy Good Housekeeping Shop. The X course lasted a month. Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Miller were Friday evening callers in the Arch DeFries home. 49 YEARS AGO. JULY 39.193* A son. weighing 10 pounds was bom Thursday evening to Mr. and Mrs. Omer Baumgartner. The baby has been named Emil Eugene. Randall and Myron Dewart furnished a special number on the band concert program Saturday evening with their electric guitars. The number was appreciated by the crowd. C. A. Sparklin, John Postma and Perry Haab arrived home late Friday night from Topeka. Kansas, where they attended the Landon notification ceremony and celebration. The men stated they had a very enjoyable time and that the attendance was estimated at 100.000. The damage to the Kansas corn crop by grasshoppers was very noticeable but they had bumper crops in wheat and oats. Mrs. Cleo Lingofelter. 45, wife of Melvin Lingofelter. expired at the Kendallville hospital, Thursday night soon after an automobile accident which occurred on road 6. two miles west of Kendallville, about 7:15 p.m. Fae Hollar entertains Homemakers Miss Fae Hollar of Leesburg entertained the Biusy Homemakers club with a Bicentennial party in her home on July 21. Miss Hollar is a former member. Mrs. Ralph Neff, Mrs. Glen Treesh and Miss Hollar presented the program which included singing patriotic songs, pledge to the flag, repeating the club creed, a story about the Liberty Bell and ladies fashions of 1904. A scrapbook, “A Salute to America’s Bicentennial,” was shown by Mrs. William Motts. It was made up of colorful pictures from magazines and newspapers depicting America's 200th birthday. Ail members displayed interesting antiques and some wore dresses from early dates. During the social hour refreshments were served by Miss Hollar and co-hostess Mrs. Glen Pinkerton. Decorations included a center piece of summer flowers and small flag favors. Three guests and nine members were present. Guests were Mrs. Harold Gawthrop of Etna j Green, Mrs. Maude Hollar and Mrs. Gladys Miller of Milford. August 24 will be family night with a carry-in supper in the home of Mr. and Mrs. William Motts.
