Freeman goes on to say in his book that, § g “Those who humbly seek the truth of the validity of | this doctrine will see it; those who have prejudiced S g the question in the negative on the basis of their :g theological background, prejudice or rational $ § argument, will be unable to receive it." Also in the “Faith for Healing" book, Freeman $ $ terms the idea that sickness comes from God as a**§ § “blessing in disguise" as unscriptural. He writes $ “This cannot be supported from scripture and is a £ ❖ direct hindrance to faith for healing." Freeman § | goes on to say that all pain and sickness come from & Satan, citing examples of Jesus casting out demons from the afflicted. $ 'Charismatic* £ In reference to the Faith Assembly the term S x "charismatic renewal" Is often used. The & >: charismatic movement is a religious movement $ $ which practices and believes In “speaking In & $ tongues." When this occurs an individual speaks an £ unintelligible phrase, which another member of the £ < congregation interprets. The belief Is that the $ unintelligible phrase comes directly from God. £ $ The Other Side £ S A position paper from the Christian church $ § denounces the charismatic movement. It says that § $ tongue speaking is actually mass hypnosis, citing a •$: study that when a strong leader Is present the :< $ members speak like him and they stopped speaking $ J In tongues when they disassociate themselves from 3 § the leader. The paper says that, "Studies show it has none § S of the characteristics of a language; the same £ S expressions are often translated differently; and $ there is no correlation between the number of g words spoken and the length of the interpretation." x The Christian position Is that tongue speaking s 3 occurs in non-Christian religions and spiritualism. $ And a book on "How to" speak in tongues has been £ § published. % 3 § Another subject of the movement, healing, Is 3 commented on In the paper, saying, "No one In the £ 3 New Testament ever felt called to a healing x ministry." And It separates praying for the sick 3 x from the healing. The paper goes on with, “Since g x ‘gifts of healing' appear only In I Corinthians (and £ 3 then only three times) and never in the epistles of £ Peter and John or any other of the epistle of Paul, g ;■ or in Hebrews, we ought not to make much of that S $ which God makes very little." $ Second Coming $ Members of the Faith Assembly are preparing £ for the second coming, as forseen in the Book of # $ Revelations in the Bible. Greider has stated that he $ S believes himself and the congregation will be part | of the “manchild" that is removed from earth | :$ before destruction begins. g

Reed stated that the boundaries of the proposed annexation area must be published in the news media riPice and a 60 day remonstrance period undergone before any further decisions can be made. However, no sewers will be run in non-annexed, county property. Chet Elder requested the board accept work done by him on the Medusa street extension in the Rock addition. The work was approved by the board. Elder also asked taken under advisement a request to change the name of the Medusa street extension to South Shore drive. The board will take the matter under advisement and await public opinion. Reed added that any name change on the street would have to be done by ordinance. Fire chief Robert Penick inquired about a trash ordinance in the downtown area. Reed suggested having businesses use compulsory trash containers. Tranter will check with the Renner Sanitation firm and see if the proper containers are available for an ordinance to be adopted. The police department requested S2OO for clothing for Dan Gall. It was also reported that the radar gun needs to be sent to the factory. It has a short which needs repaired. The gun is believed to still be under warranty. The board approved the request and the dam was opened last night. A new set of rules and regulations for radio dispatchers in the fire department was received. Also received were resignations effective August 1 from Charles Lantz and Robert Penick, Jr. The town needs applicants of men or women with typing and filing ability to'fill these positions. Unanimously approved by the board was a fire agreement submitted by the township. Under the agreement the cost of the fire department would be shared, costs of the department met 45 per cent by the township and 55 per cent by the town, and dispatch costs shared equally on a 50 per cent basis. The contract, which is continuous until renegotiated, was signetP’by the board members. Dust reported receipt of $57,815.11 for the general fund, $43,877.54 for the street fund and $7,743.10 in the cumulative fund, as deposited July 13.
