Figures on bus checks Indiana State Police superintendent Robert L. Deßard today released figures on the latest school bus safetycheck A total of 3.344 school busses were checked and of these. 3.059 were approved Tw o hundred and eighty more were approved after repairs, two others have not yet completed repairs and three others were condemned. Indiana's school bus safetycheck program is rated by those in the industry as one of the best programs in the nation All school busses are checked annually and. in addition, certain areas are subject to spot checks. Prior to 1974. school busses were exempt from safetv checks

Superintendent Deßard said that even with the strict regulations for school bus safety, there were 544 accidents involving school busses in 1975 which resulted in three deaths and 84 injuries. OSHA extends date for guarding farm machinery'
Fanners and ranchers will have more time to meet safety requirements of the new machine guarding standards for agriculture. According to the occupational safety and health administration vOSHA'. the June 7 effective date has been extended to October 25. This coincides with the scheduled effective date of the standard for rollover protective structures on tractors. “In assessing the importance of educational material to employers and employees, it is necessary to consider the uniqueness of agriculture as regards occupational safety and health.” OSHA stated In the past, few safety and health standards have applied to agriculture. Therefore, it is reasonable that a longer lead time is necessary to inform employers and employees about
