Hoosier Classic tournament set
Water Ski. Inc., will conduct the Hoosier Classic Professional Water Ski tournament and boat show on July 17 and 18 at Nellans Lake at. the intersection of state road 15 and US 30 at the north edge of Warsaw. The Hoosier Classic will feature water ski jumping for distance and ah entirely new competition freestyle There will also be 30 minute ski shows between rounds of competition which will include delta wing kite flying Commitments have been received from the top water skiers in the world that they will compete in the Hoosier Classic. They include Wayne Grimditch. current national and world water ski jumping champion and a member of the USA ski team. Many people will remember Wayne from the superb showing he made last winter in ABC’s Superstars competition During the week days prior to the Hoosier Classic. Water Ski. Inc., will also be conducting a water ski clinic for midwest area skiers Wayne Grimditch will provide personalized instruction in jumping Ricky McCormick, current national overall champion and member of USA ski team, will provide instruction < for tricks and Kris LaPoint, current national and world slalom champion, will provide instruction for slalom Many of the major ski and boat companies are supporting the Hoosier Classic and many of the northern Indiana mannas will be displaying boats and skis under a large display tent dunng the course of events at the Hoosier Classic

Wawasee girls advance in tournament with 2 victories
The Wawasee girls have advanced in the Goshen softball fastpitch district tourney and will play Manns on Thursday night. They won victories on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, the team advanced by defeating Supreme Van by the score of 25-4 Leading the wav in the hitting department were Kathi Replogle. Barb Brouwer. Brenda Replogle and Phyllis Horvath, each had three hits. One of Brouwer s hits was a homer

Wawasee swimmers participate in Firecracker open at Manchester
Members of the Wawasee swimming club participated in the Firecracker at Manchester on Saturday. July 3. The meet was open with no team scores being given. Ribbons were awarded to those placing in the first six positions. Members of the Wawasee team are coached_by Larry Shook. Teams participating in the Firecracker event were from Auburn. Cass county. Delphi, Elkhart. Frankfort. Goshen, Honeywell swim team. Manchester, Rochester. Tippecanoe Valley and Wawasee plus individuals who did not represent teams. A number of Wawasee swimmers participated, many placing in the events. The swimmers and their events are as follows: Troy Webb won several honors in the boys 11-12. He was fourth in the 100 free with a time of 1:10.8. fifth in the 50 back with a time of 38.5. sixth in the 50 breast with a time of 45.6, fifth in the 100 individual medley with a time of 1:26.2 and seventh in the 50 free with a time of 32.9. sixth place time was 32.8. Elizabeth Wood was third in the 50 back with a time of 40.9. sixth in the 100 free with a time of 1:25.2 and participated in the 50 breast. 50 free and 100 individual medley for girls 9-10 Darsee Staley was fourth in the 50 breast for girls 13-14 with a time of 39.0. She also swam in the 100 free and 50 fly. Jan Miller was seventh in the 50 breast with a time of 42.2 and participated in the 50 back and 50 fly for girls 13-14. In girls 15-17 Lisa Bosstick was seventh in the 100 free with a time of 1:06.3 and seventh in the 50 free with a time of 30.2. She also participated in the 50 breast. Teresa Carpenter was fourth in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:48.3, fifth in the 50 breast with a time of 32.2. eighth in the 100 free with a time of 1:06.6 in the girls 15-17 events Also in, the girls 15-16 events. The 200 medley girls 13-14 relay tpam was second with a time oC-— —• 2:26.3. Goshen won the event with a time of 2:22.9. In the ‘2OO medley boys 15-17 relay W’awasee was third with a time of 2:09.6. Delphi won the event with 1:53.5 and Elkhart was second. In the 200 free girls 13-14 relay the Waw asee team was third with 2:12.1 Goshen w on'the event with 2:06.8 and Honeywell was second with 2:09.1. In the boys 15-17 200 free relay Wawasee was third with 1:47.9. Delphi won the event with 1:40.8 and Elkhart was second. In the girls 15-17 200 free relay the Wawasee' team was second with 2:12.0. Elkhart won the event with 1:58.2.

Girls track team guests of Kiwanis The Wawasee high school state champion girls track team and their coach Marcia Carpenter were guests of the Kiwanis Club of Lakeland. North Webster, on July 12 The track team members present for the breakfast meeting were Barbara Brouwer, Barbara Yojier. Lorene Spearman and Kathy Bice. Coach Carpenter described the training of the team from .the first of March through the track season up to the state meet. She pointed out that Wawasee high school girls had an excellent record winning all but two track meets over the past five years. In describing their success in the state championship, the explained that Lorene Spearman won three events earning 224 points for her team and all four girte, working together in the relajHeam, gave the additional points needed to win the championship. Recently Miss Spearman placed fifth in national competition against 82 participants.
