Rhodes all-time best was 182-44 Indiana finished third in the meet Ohio won with 1574 points, followed by Michigan with 149 and Indiana with ,141 Rhodes finished fifth in shot put at the state meet with 58-1. Chuck Wells of Logansport won the event with a 60-64 toss W awasee’s other participant in the state track meet. Dennis Spearman, failed to make the finals after losing a shoe at the second hurdle m a trial heat. Finishing the race with only one shoe, he was clocked at :14.6. Jerry Hill of Indianapolis Tech won the event on Saturday with a : 13.4*. The sixth place state finisher was clocked at ; 14.3.

Wawasee golf club results First place winners of the Wawasee golf club scramble held on Saturday. June .12. with a 34, was the team composed of Tom Amaya. Orville Vanderßeyden. Charles Morrical and Kay Kizer. Coming in a close second with a 35 were Ady Howell, Mose Troyer, Mike Zwikl and Hazel Swihart. Ady Howell and Mike Books with a 61 took first in the two-men best ball on Sunday, June 13. Mose Troyer and George were second with a 62. and Russ Sowers and Bill Miller placed third with a 63 score. Wawasee girls win two more The local girls, upped their league record to 4-0 with a pair of victories since last week. On Saturday the Warriorettes trounced Supreme Van by the score of 23-3. On Monday they came back to clobber Miller Concrete 26-3. Both games were called after five innings due to the 15 run rule. In the game against Supreme Van, Phyllis Horvath allowed one hit in the four innings. She struck out six. Kim Wagoner pitched the fifth inning for the Warriorettes. Kathi Replogle, Nancy Shock. Barb Brouwer, Mary Kitson and Tammy Schumn had two hits each. One of Tammy T, J. Schumn’s hits was a long home run that hit the left field fence some 220 feet away from home plate. Horvath got the victory with Hochstetler taking the loss. In the Monday night game the gals scored 13 runs in the first inning with 17 batters coming to the plate Phyllis Horvath again pitched a one-hitter for four innings with Brouwer finishing the game. Horvath had a total of five strike outs in the four innings pitched. Troyer took the loss for Miller’s. Leading the way for the Warriorettes, Horvath had three hits, Martha Salazar, Brouwer, Williams. Brenda and Kathi Replogle, Shock and Mary Kitson each had two hits. Tammy Schumn. Barb Brouwer and Betsy Williams hit homers for the winners A total of 16 girls played in this game for Wawasee. Next league game is Wednesday, June 23 This game will try to be rescheduled due to the festivities at the Mermaid Festival honoring the girls winning the state track meet.

Syracuse junior high athletic awards

Athletic awards for Syracuse junior high school students were presented at a carry-in supper the final week of school. Parents and students were there to hear the results of the sports seasons and honor outstanding performances. Marion Acton, Milford junior high principal and basketball referee, talked to the group about the positive values to be found in athletics and the effort needed to attain them. A team award was presented in each sport to the boy who had set the best examples of dedication, effort, achievement, scholastic achievement and leadership. Award winners for each sport were Shawn Stevenson, football; Cam Boyer, basketball; TerryRinker, wrestling; and Jeff Spitler, track. Cam Boyer also won the outstanding athletic scholarship award in the eighth grade and Darren Grisamer won that award in the seventh grade. Girls athletic awards were presented by Arleen Corson to those eighth grade girls who have participated in three or more sports each year. Award winners were Rose Easley. Michelle White, Tracy Rinker, Laurie Brouwer and Elizabeth Brewer. The outstanding athlete scholarshipaward was presented to Laurie Brouwer. Jan Miller and Tracy Rinker received the GAA outstanding participation awards. In addition to the above awards athletic certificates were

Relay team is champ! Wawasee's Lorene Spearman now has a national championship to her credit. Lorene and teammates Karen Wechsler of Huntington, Rhonda Jones of Eastbrook and Yvonne Blackman of Marion won the AAU Junior National Championship in the 400 meter relay event yesterday (Tuesday) in the outdoor track and field events in California. Their time: 46.7. The team had placed second in the preliminary events. The girls were coached by Steve Beaty of Lawrence high school. A total of 35 teams participated in the event. Lorene Fifth Lorene placed fifth in the 100 meter event. Her time was 11:88. Earlier she had won a heat and placed third in the semi-finals with times of 11:67 and 11:76. A total of 82 girls were entered in the event. Karen Wechsler placed third in the 100 meter hurdles. The girls are expected to arrive back in Indiana the first of next week.

Greg Weisser struck out 10 and allowed only one hit in pitching Milford to the victory. Jerry Auer scored four runs and Ross Dahlstrom, Jeff Richards. Rick Pena and Pat Speicher hit home runs. Tigers — Reds Kent Stichter doubled in two runs and was the winning pitcher for the Tigers as they defeated the Reds 8-4. Bill Bess scored two runs and drove in two runs for the winners. Ross Dahlstrom had two hits for the Reds. Sox — Expos Brian Henpon scored the winning run with one out in the last inning as the Sox squeaked by the Expos 6-5. Greg Weisser had two doubles and a triple for the Sox. Jerry Auer and Paul Pontius each had two hits for the losers. Cards — Twins Pat Speicher collected two hits and pitched his team to a 10-3 victory over the Twins. Pirates —lndians The Pirates defeated the Indians 14-13 in major league girls play. Brenda Bucher and Norine Sorensen each collected four hits for the Pirates. Cathy Kinney had two singles and a triple for the Indians. ; Giants — Pirates Andrea Henson hit a single, two doubles and a triple to score four runs and batted in four runs to lead the Giants to a 22-17 victory over the Pirates. Penny Fifer had four hits for the Pirates. Indians —Braves Deb Lechlitner hit a single, two triples, a home run and scored three runs to lead the Indians to a 25-19 victory.
