Michele Conn, daughter of Mr and Mrs Willard Conn of near Milford, was one of 11 girls from the Warsaw assembly of the Rainbow who attended the Indiana Grand Assembly of the Ordeg of the Rainbow for girls held at Indiana university June 7 through 11. Michele sang in the grand choir and sang a vocal solo at the initiation held Sunday evening PN3 Terry Musselman is home on leave to visit his parents. Mr and Mrs Clair L Musselman of Milford. Janet Sue tipped the scales at five pounds and twelve ounces and has one brother, Kent, 10, and one sister, Peggy, 8. Both mother and daughter are reported fine and are expected home soon. Mr. and Mrs Harry Doty of Milford are paternal grandparents and Mr. and Mrs Pete Yoder also of Milford are the maternal grandparents 24 YEARS AGO. JUNE 12.1952 A Little League baseball game will be played by the Milford Little Leaguers and the Warsaw Cubs at 6:15 tonight at the Milford ball park. This should be an interesting game as the Cubs are leading the Little League at Warsaw, and the Milford boys have not been defeated All the boys are between the ages of 9 and 12. Mrs. Albert R. Graff, was chosen by the Milford American Legion’s Post 226, to attend Boys’ State at Indianapolis. He left Saturday to be gone eight days. Walter W. Krider will retire as commander of American Legion Post 226 at the installation of officers scheduled for Monday evening, June 30. Taking the gavel in his place will be Walter Ritter, long active in Legion affairs. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kaiser have as their house guests Mrs. Kaiser's brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Don Baumgartner and children Don. Lynn, and Susan, of Madison, Wise. Mr. Baumgartner drove to Indianapolis Thursday morning to attend an International Harvester meeting. 30 YEARS AGO. JUNE 13.1946 Mrs. Joan Musser gave a pleasant birthday party Tuesday evening in honor of her 3 year old son Phillip. Guests present were Mrs. Melvin Speicher and children Jim. Melvin. Karen, and Gerry; Chester and Marshall Baker of Elkhart; and Lina Merkel Miss Phyllis Evans was in charge of entertainment at which time they enjoyed active games and read stories. Ice cream and cake were served while the group sang several songs. Phillip was the recipient of many nice gifts. Last Wednesday evening the first public band concert was held on Main street, with Mr. Joseph Judkins in charge of the Milford school band. A nice crowd gathered on Main street to listen to the music from 8 to 9 o’clock. Mrs. Junior Tusing and Mrs. Ryland Mock entertained on Tuesday evening at the home of the former in honor of Miss Joan Good, who will become the bride of Richard E. Ganger on Sunday, June 16. 1 49 YEARS AGO. JUNE 11.1936 The regular meeting of the Eastern Star was held last week in their lodge hall with an attendance of 20 members Plans were made for members to attend a meeting at Bremen Friday night and also for the annual inspection which will be here in September, the chapters from Syracuse and Leesburg, also participating. The social committee, Mesdames Martha Love, Mae Sparklin, Sarah Rex, Katie Stoller, Nettie Chatten and Miss Anna Rodibaugh. took the members to Katie’s Case, for refreshments. This was the last meeting until September. Mrs William Hall fell on her arm Thursday and broke it just below the elbow. She was leaving the Daniel Neff home when her ankle turned, causing her to fall. She did not discover until several hours later, that her arm had been broken, as it gave her no discomfort during that time. Randall and Myron Dewart who have pleased many audiences in this vicinity with their singing and playing of guitars, broadcasted from the Elkhart radio station at 6:30 pm.. Sunday. Alfred Goshert of Warsaw is exhibiting a tasseled stalk of corn 26 inches in length from his garden which he claims to be the most advanced in this county. Pesticide training to be June 14-16
By VICTOR R. VIRGIL Extension Agent A pesticide certification training meeting for commercial operators or applicators will be held June 14-16, in the Holiday Inn. Jet. I 65 and 43, Lafayette. Indiana law requires that after October 21. any person owning or operating a for-hire pesticide application business must be licensed. The training is for any person who applies or supervises ground application or use of pesticides for hire in the production of agricultural crops. It is not mandatory that an individual go through the training program in order to take the certification exam to obtain the required license. He can take the exam at the state chemist's office, biochemistry dept.. Purdue university, Lafayette. If undecided as to the need for certification, contact the state chemist. Extension offices have attempted to supply the names of commercial for-hire operators to the biochemistry department in order that these firms will receive the training information However, some businesses may have been missed in this process. Golfing flags and pins are stolen Rick Baker of Maxwelton Golf club hortheast of Syracuse reported to police of the theft of 16 flags and pins from the golf course sometime Sunday night. Twelve of the flags have been recovered. Eight flags were yellow in color, and eight white. Investigation continues. Obscured window blamed for mishap An obscured back window of a 1967 Oldsmobile operated by Kirk P. Hughes. 17, r 4 Syracuse, was Named for a two-vehicle mishap at 5 p.m. May 31 on City street, east of Indiana 13. about 10 feet south of Pickwick road in Syracuse. Syracuse police reported the Olds was being backed from in front of the Dairy Queen and struck the left side of a 1972 Chrysler driven by Marise E. Smith. 51, of rural Syracuse. There was no damage to the Oldsmobile but S3OO listed to the Chrysler.
Vandalism reported County officers continue investigation into a break-in and vandalism at the Gene Mock farm near Epworth Forest entrance at North Webster sometime over the week end. A lock hasp was broken from a shed, perhaps with a sledge hammer, and the headlights and battery of a tractor broken. Damage was set at $75.
