State unemployment claims hit new low

Regular and extended benefit continued claims declined due to various recalls and benefit exhaustions, he noted. Regular claims numbered 42,363, down 1,422 and extended benefit claims were 12,221, down 283. Federal supplemental benefit claims were 68 more at 501 and special unemployment assistance claims rose 840 to 5,559 as schools began closing for summer vacations.
