Robinson, guidance directa and guidance counselor filed their annual report with the superintendent of the Lakeland schools recently. A copy of the report was presented to members of the school board at their meeting Tuesday night. The report shows 400 parent conferences were held with 105 college applications completed and 127 scholarship applications, including 55 state scholarships Also on the report were testing programs and other activities which the guidance department participated in during the year.
Class projecT measures Milford television attitudes ; Sixth graders at Milford junior high school have finished a class project on attitudes and values of Milfad citizens for Dick Roose’s social, studies class. t Roose wanted the students to do some kind of year-end project and suggested an opinion poll might be one such idea. The students then decided the topic they wanted to deal with was television. The goals of the class, accading to Roose are “centered on self-awareness and community awareness " During the last three weeks of school, fa approximately 15 class periods, student* made questionnaire forms, had them run off and canvassed the community door to door. Working in five groups of four, the sixth graders covered sections of town from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Marion Acton, principal, permitted the students to leave the building to work cn the project and Jim White, band director, assisted by releasing some students from his sixth and seventh.period classes. In all, 176 homes in Milford woe contacted, or 50 per cent of households in the community. More questionnaires were distributed, but were not returned. “I’m very pleased with what the kids did, the work they put into it,” commented Roose. “I’m very excited about it.” After the poll was given to the community, the same questionnaires were given to seventh and eighth grade students Sixth grade students participating in the project were Jay Auer, Pat Speicher, Paul Siegfried, Steve Nyikos, Nick Johnson. FFA has new test plot on Kern road The Wawasee Future Farmers of America chapter, Wawasee high school, is operating a corn test plot again this year Primary purpose of the test plot is to compare yields of different varieties grown in this area. All varieties being tested were donated by area dealers. Those verities and dealers are P-A-G SX 397 and P-A-G SX 454 donated by Bill Hall . Moews SM 220 from Leon Tucka; DeKalb XL 64A from Bob Strombeck; Becks 44X from Jon Roberts; Super Cross 2890 from Gary and Max Tom; Parkers 333 from Richard Kaiser; and Dennis 37. In addition comparisons on average yield will be made where conventional tillage was used and where minimum tillage was employed (chisel plow-disc) A weed control check will also be made comparing a treatment of Prowl with a treatment of Lasso plus Aatrex. The plots are located on Kan road west of the high school. Local farmers interested in examining the demonstrations are welcome to do so. Results from the tests will be available next fall.
