MAD day is a success at Milford

Despite threatening skies and rain later in the day. The Milford Area Development council’s activities and the American Legion sponsored parade and service at the cemetery were very successful last Monday. The parade was one of the largest ever on Memorial day in Milford and a large number of persons lined the streets to watch the units go past. At the cemetery Rev. Richard Boyd of the First Brethren church read the speech written by John B. Augsburger. Augsburger. who was scheduled to speak did not because of the death of his mother MAD Activities The MAD activities began at 11 am. with a chicken barbecue which continued until 1:30 p.m. A total of 1,100 were served. Congressman Floyd Fithian was scheduled to be at the barbecue but did not come because of the weather The Cutie King and Queen contest was held at 11:30 under the direction of Norma Rapp. A total of 24 participants were in the contest with the new queen being Krista Zimmerman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Zimmerman. Jr., of near Milford and the new king • being Jared Andrew Beer, son of Mr and Mrs Jim Beer of Milford. Runners-up were Lynae Krull, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Krull of Nappanee; and Jason Yoder, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Yoder of Indianapolis. Other contestants were Jason Brooks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Brooks of Milford; David Bradway. son of Mr and Mrs Ward Bradway of Milford; Lisa Hunsberger, daughter of Mr and Mrs. Bruce Hunsberger of Milford. Betsy Wqlferman. daughter of Mr and Mrs Bob Wolterman of Milford; Spencer Lee Martin, son of Mr and Mrs John Martin of Milford; and Sharon Gerencser. daughter of Mr. and Mrs Joe Gerencser of Milford. Obstacle Course A total of 168 persons participated in the obstacle course which began at 12 noon. Thad Grove was first in the sixeight year old group with a time of 23.6. Eric Sharp was second and Jessie Perales was third. In the nine-11 year old group Sandra Hernandez was first with an 18.1. Grace Stichter was second and Jana Gerber was third. Suzie Dove was first in the 12-14

age level with an 18.0. Ken Miller was second and Debbie Bell was third. Tod Grove won first in the 15-18 year group with a 15.5. the fastest time of the day. Benny Morris was second with a 16.3, second fastest time of the day. Joe Cousins was third. In the 19-25 age group Tom Fish was first with 18.4 with Keith Hunsberger finishing second and Kevin Rhoads in third place. For the 26 and over group it was Tom Levemier. first with 20.0 followed by Charles Summeriock and Steve Replogle.

A giant whale followed the youngsters, as did one of the church’s five buses which was decorated for the vacation Bible school program which will begin at 9 a.m. next Tuesday and run through June 18.

Fire reported at El-Ko Mobile park Syracuse firemen responded to a call from Paul Davis of El-Ko Mobile home park at 3:59 p in. Thursday of a fire at the Larry Haviland property. Firemen found gasoline burning near a storage building with two gas cans found nearby. It was believed the fire was started by youths seen playing in the area with matches and burning materials. The Elkhart county sheriff s department was called in to investigate
