France. Accompanying the choir will be a string orchestra comprised of student musicians from the various states. When the Sounds of Hope returns July 22. the group will give a Rotary club sponsored concert at Wawasee high school. Later, the group will attend a banquet in their honor with Will Erwin and Indiana senator Birch Bayh as guests. Chance began the tours after several personal trips to Europe. “Person after person said. "What is the Hope?’ ", he explained. Some Prague businessmen declared that there was no hope, and Chance began the optimistic tours to counter such feelings. "That's what we’re trying to do. sponsor goodwill.”

Lorene and Dennis Spearman, brother and sister, will be competing on Wawasee high school track teams at the Stole IH-SAA track meet in Indianapolis. Four days later, Lorene leaves for California to participate to the AAU senior outdoor track and field championships. Having a sister running track makes Dennis subject to remarks from his teammates. “Can you beat her. can you beat her." to one such bit according to Dennis. C- i Both practice one to two hours per day. and besides track have participated in other sports. Dermis was a member of a state swimming team and when not running high hurdles has played football. Gymnastics and volleyball are two other sports Lorene has been involved in The pair come from an athletic family. Father Robert Spearman was on four state track teams and one state basketball team. Brother Pat. now at Anderson college, played both football and ran track. Tom. another brother, was a swim team member. And younger sister. Joanna partipates on an eighth grade volleyball team. In California. Lorene will compete in the 188 yard dash and run the anchor leg of the 440 yard relay with Karen Wechsler. Huntington; Rhonda Jones. Eastbrook: and Yvonne Blackman. Marion, the Indy Chevettes, coached by Steve Beaty of Lawrence high school. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Spearman, r 3 Syracuse, are Dennis and Lorene's parents.

Diane's interests include water skiing and reading. She is a member of the high school choir and drama club. Frances Bieber, Wawasee high school senior, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elnor Bieber, r 1 Pierceton. This will be her second tour with Sounds of Hope. Wawasee high school senior, son of Dr. and Mrs. Jack P. Clark, Syracuse and Mrs. Clyde Dayhuff, Bloomington. Bruce participates in the drama club, pilot’s club, concert band and concert choir. He snow and water skis, scuba dives and swims. Sheri Long. Wawasee high school junior, daughter of the Richard R. Longs of Leesburg. Sheri’s activities include women's choir, church choir, youth group, 4-H youth choir, youth performances, speech team, and drama club. Sheri is an English and science major who swims and water skis. Tom Leonard. Wawasee high school junior, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas S. Leonard, r 1 Syracuse. Tom has been in choir three years, participating in the high school concert choir and the Calvary United Methodist church choir.
Golfers 3d in NIC meet By ESTI KEEN Paced by Gary Miller and Rob Zurcher, who each fired 79’s, coach Rudy Cesco’s Warriors finished third in the Northern Lakes Golf match last Tuesday with a total of 322. The Tigers, with three individuals earning medals, took the tourney with 296 for the 18 holes. Manchester was second with 316. Warsaw broke the NLC match record of 307 set at Maxwelton by the Tigers in 1969. Although they turned up a third place in the tourney, the Warriors were second in NLC standings which were determined by giving a point for each regular season win and distribution of tournament points cn an 8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1-0 basis Warsaw won the overall title. Student body president elected at Wawasee high
Dan Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Martin, box 146 Milford, has been elected student body president for 1976-1977 at Wawasee high school. It was one of the closest elections held at the school, with only three other votes separating Martin’s opponents. John Beer and Mike Steffen. Martin, who will be a senior, won with a total of 280 votes. “I promised I would do the best job I could and would work as hard as I could." said Martin. He made no other campaign promises. As student body president, Martin will serve as chairman erf the Pride committee, which coordinates all student body matters. He will also handle relations with other schools’ student bodies, if past exhange programs continue
Superkids sports event set at Milford Saturday
Young people from Milford in grades three through eight will be competing in the first Superkids Sports Event on Saturday. June 5. to raise money for lung research and other health programs of the American Lung Association of North Central Indiana. They want to demonstrate that healthy lungs and bodies are important to us all. All are urged to support this life-saving team of Superkids and sponsor a Superkid by making a pledge of one-half cent or more Drug-alcohol program set for Sunday A special program on drug and alcohol abuse will be presented next Sunday evening. June 6, at Calvary United Methodist church in Syracuse. The church is located on SR 13 south The program which starts at 7 p.m. will be presented by trooper Michael Pershing of the Indiana State Police and is offered specifically for the junior and senior high youths and for parents of the youth, but the subject matter will be of interest to many who do not fit these categories The program is open to the public.

l in M li BICYCLE INSPECTION — Students at the Van Buren elementary school in Milford areihown as they lined up their bicycles on May 21 for inspection under the leadership of the Lakeland Kiwanis club bike inspection program. Directing the inspection at Milford were chairman Robert Morgan, left: Kiwanian Robert Day, kneeling: and on the right are Kiwanis member David Shields and Lakeland Kiwanis president Sherman Bryant. Assisting the Lakeland Kiwanis members were Lewis S. Immel, principal, second from left; and Kosciusko county sheriff deputies Gary Moser and Jeff Bronsing. Approximately 500 bicycles were inspected through this project at the elementary and junior high schools in Milford, North Webster and Syracuse. A total of 1.300 safety flags were given for use on bicycles in the Lakeland community. As another part of its youth services, Lakeland Kiwanians heard Dan Caskey, director of the Lakeland Youth Center at Syracuse, describe the activities of the center on May 24. Guests of Kiwanis for breakfast were five boys — Bryan Kistler, Chris Cox. Mark Deeters, David Workman and Pat Harris. Mr. Caskey used these boys from the youth center to demonstrate football and basketball exercises which are a part of their activities. The annual bike-a-thon will be held on Saturday. June 5. Entry blanks must be secured from area stores or the elementary or junior high schools. The forms should be completed and turned in at the time of the bike-a-thon. Regulations and complete details for the event are on the registration forms.

Blue Birds hold surprise party Twenty-five Sunshine and Snowbird Blue Birds and five leaders met last Wednesday at the Syracuse home of Virginia Neises. leader, for a surprise birthday party for all the girls. Shu-Kin-De-Da-Nu group has meeting The Shu-Kin-De-Da-Nu Camp Fire group met on June 1 at the Syracuse scout cabin, for the last regular meeting erf the Camp Fire year. Terri Smith led the pledge to the flag with Jana James leading the Camp Fire law. Tammy Granger was acting president. The secretary’s report was by Siobhan Stevenson. Debbie Lambright was acting treasurer and took attendance and dues. Summer activities were discussed and hide and seek played. Debbie Lambright led for the closing song.
