Dorothy Augsburger dies on Friday a.m.
DOROTHY AUGSBURGER Funeral sen ices were held on Sunday, May 30/ for Mrs. John F. (Dorothy L "Babe”) Augsburger. 68. r 1 Syracuse. The wife of Indiana’s joint state senator from the 13th district, she died on Friday at 10:50 a.m. in the Elkhart hospital after an extended illness of six years She was bom on March 10. 1908 to Charles and Grace (Hess) Bird in Milford On January 20. 1934 she married John F. Augsburger He survives Mrs. Augsburger lived most of her life in Milford and for many years had a summer residence on s Lake Wawasee The Augsburgers own and operate the Augsburger s Super Valu Stores She was a member of the Milford Christian church; Kosciusko Chapter 160. Order of the Eastern Star, the Indiana Women's General Assembly Wayne G. Rohrer Wayne G Rohrer, 54. Van • Nuys. Calif. and former resident of the Hastings conynunity west of Milford, died Friday. May 28. in a Los Angeles hospital of an apparent heart attack. Bom July 4. 1921 to Ralph and Cora (Swartzlander) Rohrer in Hastings, he married Margart Zokey m South Bend on February 23. 1946 A veteran of World War 11. .Rohrer moved to California m 1959 and was employed by Trans World Airline .TWA). Survivors include his widow; two sons. Dennis of Van Nuys and Greg at home, his mother. Mrs Ralph Rohrer of Warsaw, three brothers. Noble of Claypool, Robert, of Warsaw and Warren (Pete) of Leesburg, and three sisters. Mrs Robert J Irene' Konkle of Claypool. Mrs Guy (Betty) Reese. Jr. of Leesburg and Mrs Bonnie McDonald of Warsaw Funeral arrangements are incomplete but services will be conducted m California Fred F. Bailey Fred F Bailey. 84. of Fort Wayne, a former resident of Syracuse. died, Tuesday. May 25. in hts home Bailey grew up in Syracuse, but resided most of his life in Fort Wayne He retired from the General Electric Co 19 years ago after 40 years of service He also was a veteran of World War I Survivors include two sisters. Mrs Don Strock of Avilla and Mrs H D Parker of Niles . Mich; and several nieces and nephews Services were held Friday. May 28. in the C. association and the Eta Beta Phi sorority. Besides her husband, she is survived by one son, John B. Augsburger of Milford; one /daughter. Mrs. Carolyn Casto of ) Milford; five grandchildren; and one brother, Albert Henry Bird of Milford. She was preceded in death by four sisters. Services were conducted in the Christian church with Eldon Wilson officiating Burial was in the Milford cemetery. Mrs. Leslie Laird Graveside senices were held Friday afternoon for Mrs Goldie F Laird, 77, of North Webster. Death came at 1:50 am. on Wednesday in the Alfran nursing home at Columbia City following an illness of 24 years. Born in Kosciusko county September 30.1898. a daughter of Joseph T and Mary Jane (Grace) Johnson, she lived in Kosciusko county most of her lifetime A housewife, she attended the North Webster United Methodist church. Her marriage to Dr. Leslie A Laird took place October 4,1916 and he preceded her in death in 1960 i Survivors include two daughters. Mrs Dean (Frances) Shirey of San Antonio. Texas and Mrs Gerald (Nancy) Baker of r 1 Leesburg; two sons. Robert Laird. Syracuse and Joseph Laird. Anahiem. Calif.; nine grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren; and one brother. Clyde Johnson of Mentone Interment was in <• Mentone cemetery Vernon Neterer Vernon R Neterer. 72. of Syracuse, died Saturday. May 29. m the Elkhart hospital where he had been a patient six days He was bom May 12. 1904 to Wesley and Elizabeth ( Rohrer) J. Neterer in Elkhart county. He married Ethel Gordan on March 7, 1925 She survives A former Nappanee businessman, the deceased was a retired owner, along with his brother. Angela Kay, on May 26 at 12:30 p.m. Angela weighed in at five pounds, seven ounces and measured 17 inches long. Escapes injury Edward Napier, 16, r 1 Syracuse, escaped injury in a one-car accident at 5:45 p.m. Sunday in Elkhart county. Napier was northbound on U.S. 33 and lost control of his car when braking. The car left the roadway slamming into a utility pole. Authorities set damages at $l5O to the pole and S4OO to the 1969 Napier Dodge.
