Not to mention the sectional championships in three events Dennis Spearman was a record-setting double winner Logansport was second with 79. Culver Military third with 65, Plymouth fourth with 53 and host Rochester fifth with 40. Spearman stole the show bymastering both the high and lowhurdles and running the third leg of the 880 relay which set a school record with a second place 1:31.3 clocking Topping the 14.8 sectional record with : 14.5 he placed himself among the top contenders at the regional contest. Ahead by leaps and bounds in the lows, he tore the 20.4 record clocking 20.1. ‘

In the relay competition Spearman joined forces with Bauman, Walker and Cromer to finish second behind Culver Military’s record breaking time of 1:30.9. Senior Jerry Rhodes set a record in the discus with his 169-11 heave. He finished second in the shot put with a school record 60-2 toss for his first loss in that event all season. The winning 60-11 effort was put forth byLogansport’s Chuck Wells. Sophomore Cromer will compete in two events at the regional after finishing third in the 220 and fourth in the 100. He was clocked in a season best : 10.1 in the 100 trials, then 10.2 in the finals. 23.1 was his 220 time. Sophmore Mike Ousley set a school record with an astonishing leap. Minton nominated for track coach of the year W’awasee high school track coach Jerry Minton was nominated for state track coach of the year, it was revealed at athletic recognition night on Monday. Members of the state track coaches association will meet June 5 to make a final selection, it was noted. The New Paris Speedway plans holiday events The New Paris Speedway will stage two Memorial Holiday week end race programs, Saturday night and Monday evening. The regular 14 events will be run off on Saturday with the first race at 7:45. On Memorial night, it will be open competition for the late models, hobby stocks, and road runners with trophies to the winners in all events. First race that night will be at 7.30.
