Remonstrators at Thursday meetings

A large crowd attended the board of zoning appeals meeting last Thursday night at town hall, most being remonstrators to several variances requested. A variance with stipulations was granted Hubert and Jacqueline Dunithan and W. K. Smith to permit light industrial purposes for upholsteryfabricating. The request was on property located south of Syracuse on Indiana 13 a short distance south of South Shore Golf club. Dunithan is owner of a North W’ebster business in manufacturing and sales and stated he planned to move his entire business to the former Al’s Plaza Marina if his variance request was granted. The larger part of his business is cutting and sewing and 17 persons are currently employed. Among numerous restrictions listed were proper storing of boats brought to the business for upholstering, a privacy fence be constructed between the buildings to obstruct view of the boats and no boats shall be stored outside for a period to exceed two weeks.

The zoning of roadside business did not change with the grant permit, according to BZA at-

torney Robert Reed, and the variance is only good as long as the Dunithans continue to operate H & H at that location. Dennis Ringler withdrew his previous request for a variance to cut up and sell junk car parts on 3,43 acres of land on countryroad 1050 north when it was discovered that some 14 neighbors were opposed to the variance and appeared at the meeting to ask denial. Leo and Bonita Curry were denied a variance request to place a mobile home on Papakeechie Lake. Several lake property owners objected, not wanting mobile homes in the area which would lower property value of surrounding homes. One property owner and secretary of the lake association noted no more mobile homes were to be placed at the lake according to association by-laws. Curry said he was unaware of the restriction and wished the individual who sold him the lot had told him of the by-law restriction. A variance was granted to Harold and Pearl Hazenfield to construct a carport closer to the lot line than allowed under the zoning ordinance.
