New administrator for the Lakeland Christian academy

It may not be a sprawling campus, but Lakeland Christian academy is growing and a new administrator is part of that growth Rev. Howard Mayes, for the past five years the executive director of the Brethren Christian education department, Winona Lake, has resigned that position effective this August 31, to become the administrator of the non-denominational Christian junior and senior high school. Lakeland Christian, now developing a 13 acre campus on Wooster road has been guided (hiring its first two years by Richard Brundage serving as a teaching principal. The school will begin its third year of operation with an anticipated enrollment of approximately 100 students in grades seven-11 The addition of grade 12 is projected for the

board of directors which established the, school in 1974. The school is/now owned and operated by the Lakeland Christian Academy Association Incorporated, an organization of donors who contribute to the association on an annual basis. Mayes comes to this responsibility with 15 years of experience as a pastor and Christian educator. In addition to pastoring three churches, he served for five years as the administrator of a Christian school in California. He has also taught in California public schools as a substitute teacher. He has held elected offices in the California Association of Christian Schools and in a national organization of denominational executives in Christian education (DECE). Mayes, who was himself trained in Christian schools, has for the past two years taught on the summer faculty of the Western Graduate school of Theology in Long Beach. Seven graduate from Ball State with honors MUNCIE — Seven students from Kosciusko county graduated from Ball State university Saturday, May 22, with honors. Joseph Espey, registrar, has released the cum laude, magna cum laude and summa cum laude lists for students whose cumulative grade average for their undergraduate work is 3.6 cr better with 4.0 a perfect all-A record. An adult education Bible course on “The Living Thought of Saint Paul” conducted by Sister Martin Ksycki, OLVM from Victory Noll in Huntington. was concluded recently at Saint Martin de Porres parish hall in Syracuse, with 32 adults receiving certificates. This was the final course on the Bible conducted over the past two years by Sr. Martin at Saint Martin de Porres church. Plans are now in the making for another adult course that will be conducted in the fall of the year and announced at that time. Camper and trailer reported stolen A truck camper and a flat bed trailer were stolen from The Arrow Corporation, south of Milford on SR 15, according to Larry Bray. Someone hooked onto the camper and trailer and hauled them away. Bray valued the camper at $1,300 and the trailer at SSOO.
