Heading for Bora-Bora? At last you’re ready to plan your vacation trip! But the incredible variety of special air fares is bewildering, there’s the one on the second Tuesday of each month between the hours of three and four in the morning for couples over the age of 30 with children under the age of 10, if reservations are made 21 days in advance Then there’s the one for singles on alternating Wednesdays. Some people have neither the time nor.patience to decipher this maze of promotional air fares available today. Many vacationers and business travelers leave the arrangements to a travel agent, observes the Better Business Bureau A good agent can save you time and money, leaving you relaxed and free just to enjoy your trip Just Who is a Travel Agent? "Travel agent” is a broad term. Anyone, regardless of background or integrity, can proclaim himself one. Before an agent can issue tickets, however, he must be appointed by the Air Traffic Conference (ATC), the International Air Transports Association (IATA), the International Passenger Ship Association, Amtrak or similar organizations. To qualify, an agent generally must (1) demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the travel field, (2) show a record of financial responsibility and (3) have at least two years of full-time experience in the travel field. Some capable agents, perhaps not in business long enough to qualify, can made reservations for you and have your tickets delivered, but cannot actually write them. In addition to making hotel reservations and • arranging transportation for you on whatever carrier you want: plane, train, bus, ship; the agent should be able to arrange tours. There are nearly as many package tours as there are
people, from tours of escorted astrologers to unescorted zookeepers. If you don’t want to join a tour, the agent can work out a personal independent tour for you. 0 One of the biggest areas of confusion in making professional travel arrangements is the matter of fees. Generally, reservations for hotels and for travel by air. ship or land are made free by the agent, who receives a commission from the participating establishments. However, any of the numerous other details that go into drawing up an itinerary, arranging visas, travelers checks, getting tickets to special events, will require a fee from you. Fees do vary from agency to agency, so the Better Business Bureau suggests finding.out well in advance what the agency’s policy is before signing anything Don’t forget to inquire about cancellation and refund procedures. Many resort hotels, for example, have high cancellation charges if they cannot rebook a cancelled room. Agencies not only differ in fees, but they may specialize in certain kinds of tours. Shop around and ask questions. Check to see if an agency is a member of the American Society of Travel Agents, a trade organization that maintains certain standards among its members. However, many reputable agents, for one reason or another, are not members of AST A Charter Tours — Risky Business Joining charter flights can be a risky business, warns the Better Business Bureau. The Federal Trade Commission, in fact, has recently announced an investigation into the industry. The Civil Aeronautics Board, too, is considering a number of proposals which may affect charter tour operations w’ithin the foreseeable tuture. If considering joining such a group, read its charter provisions carefully, particularly as to refund policies if the trip is cancelled, the itinerary changed or accommodations altered. Note which carrier is conducting the charter and contact the Federal Aviation Administration to find out if the carrier is certified for charter flights. The Better Business Bureau may have information about the promoter or chartering organization. Keep in mind that the charter flight promoter is not necessarily a travel agent. Remember, says the Better Business Bureau, that a good travel agent can make your vacation sail with a perfect breeze Considering the potential problems in traveling to far-off lands, a knowledgeable, competent travel agent can be a traveler’s best friend. For example, a good agent should know that the Tora-Tora Hotel in Bora-Bora has not existed for the past 20 years! It has been rented that cigars kept in ideal condition (in a humidor room) improve in quality for five rears and hold a peak for another five years before they start to decline in taste.

Happiness is strawberries
WEST LAFAYETTE - Happiness is slicing fresh, red, ripe strawberries picked from your own garden patch. And happiness a la mode is ■ enjoying them with a breakfast cereal ... on shortcake ... or with ice cream. You can share in this hap- >■ piness, says R A. Hayden. Purdue university extension horticulturist, by substituting action for dreams. “Strawberries are one of the best adapted small fruit crops in Indiana,” says Hayden. “Their easy care makes them a perennial favorite in the home garden. The plants also serve nicely as landscape pieces or ground cover in garden borders. ” Plant strawberries as soon as the ground can be worked in the spring, the extension horticulturist counsels: Fertilize the ground well before planting and work the soil to provide a good planting bed. Although adaptable to manysoil types, strawberries grow best in a sandy loam. They also respond to large amounts of organic matter. If organic matter is added, occasionally extra nitrogen is needed to help the micro-organisms break down the organic matter, Hayden explains Also, in planting, remember to place the crowns at the surface of the soil. The crown is the fleshy part of the plant from which the roots arise If placed too deep, the plants do poorly. If planted too shallow, the roots tend to dry out, causing many plants to die. Popular June bearing varieties are Surecrop and Redchief To extend the season, plant Marlate —a good late variety. And for a small supply of strawberries still later, select the everbearing Ozark Beauty. For best performance, flowers on the plants should be pinched off during the first season, permitting the plants to produce a heavy vegetative growth. This

means you cannot expect to dine on strawberries from your garden the first year. But the second year should provide you with happiness . . yummies for your tummy! Thoughts From The Living Bible Then God said, “Let us make a man—someone like ourselves, to be the master of all life upon the earth and in the skies and in the seas.” So God made man like his Maker. Like God did God make man; Man and maid did he make them. And God blessed them and told them, “Multiply and fill the earth and subdue it; you are masters of the fish and birds and all animals. And look! I have given you the seed-bearing plants throughout the earth, and all the fruit trees for your food. Genesis 1:26-29
