• Frank Garten Funeral services were held Friday morning for Frank A. Garten, 78, of Lake Wawasee and uncle of Mrs. William T. Jones Jr., of Syracuse. Death came at 3:30 a m last Wednesday in Goshen hospital following a three week illness. Bom at Odon on April 11, 1898. a son of Walter C. and Elizabeth (Crooke) Garten, he spent his summers at Lake Wawasee for 44 years, moving to Wawasee permanently from Indianapolis in 1965 Mr Garten attended Purdue university where he was a member of the fraternity, .was state track champion of Manuel Training high school at Indianapolis and part owner of the Garten Feed company at Indianapolis He- was a former member of the Columbia club and a member of the University Park Christian church In addition to the niece, he is survived by two nephews, James W. Sutton of Indianapolis and Jeremy Garten. Phoenix. Ariz He was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters Rev Marvin Jones officiated for the Friday morning service at Syracuse with Rev Carver McGriff in charge for the graveside service at Indianapolis Oliver Graff Funeral services were held this morning (Wednesday) for Oliver •Graff. 85. of 419 South Seventh street. Goshen Death came erf an apparent heart attack suffered at 10:30 a m at his home on Monday He had been in failing health for some time, however, death was unexpected He was born at Tremont. 111. on May 16. 1890. a son of Mr and Mrs Fred Graff and moved to Goshen m 1932 His wife, the former Emma Gauger to whom he was married January 4, 1911 at Saint Joe, Mich . preceded him in death July 12, 1973 Mr Graff was.a carpenter and member of the Apostolic Christian church at Milford He is survived by one daughter. Mrs Frank (Ruth) Beer of Milford; seven grandchildren. 17 greatgrandchildren; three brothers, Oscar and Albert, both of Milford and Everett. Syracuse; and five sisters. Mrs Pete (Laura) Wuthrich of Milford, Mrs Otto (Barbara) Beer of New Paris. Mrs Eli Mary) Gerber of Goshen, Mrs Tilly Kashaum. Goshen, and Miss Edna Graff. Merl Whitehead Funeral services were held Saturday for Merl G. Whitehead, 80, of Goshen, brother of Russell Whitehead of Syracuse. Death came at 1 a m on Thursday at Goshen hospital where he had been admitted Tuesday night. He had been in failing health for several months and death was due to a heart coridition. A Jackson township native, he was born to Samuel and Dociah (Peters) Whitehead on October 1. 1895 and lived all of his life in the Goshen community. He was a poultry raiser and breeder, operating a chicken barbeque at the Goshen fairs for a number of years. Mr. Whitehead was a past president of both the state poultry association and the Elkhart county poultry association. He was united in marriage to Edna Berkey on March 30. 1917 and she survives Mr. Whitehead was a member of the Rock Run church where he had held many offices. He was also a member of the Elkhart County Historical Society and the Kiwanis club Additional survivors include a son. Robert. Brooklyn. Mich.; three daughters, Mrs William (Mary Laverle) Hartsough and Mrs Melvin (Lois) Kauffman, both of Goshen, and Mrs Willis (Roberta) Carpenter. Millersburg; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs Clem (Cecil) Bowers of Sebring. Fla . and one other brother. Harold Whitdiead of New Paris A son preceded him in death Interment was in Rock Run cemetery Alfred Hoerr Funeral services were held Monday at 10 a m in Peoria. 111., for Alfred Hoerr, 76. 1315 E. Hillcrest. Peoria, brother of John C. Hoerr of Milford Hoerr died at 1:45 p m. Friday. May 7. It was his 32d wedding anniversary He died in the Methodist Medical center where he had been a patient since April 25 He owned and operated the Hoerr Auto Sales for 50 years, last working in November of 1975 He- had been a resident of Peoria for the past 53 years Hoerr was born at Fairbury on October 30,1899 He was the son of John and Mary t Rappi Hoerr He married Mabie (Grimm) Gerber in Peoria on May 7, 1944. Mary Lindsey Mrs. Mary Louise Lindsey, 53, ° r 1 Leesburg, died at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 4. in University hospital, Indianapolis, following a two-year illness. Bom in Pleasant Lake, on November 17, 1922. she came to the Barbee Lake area five years ago from Muncie. Her husband. Ferrell Lindsey, whom she married December 15, 1941, survives with three sons, Dennis. Muncie. Randy. Fort Wayne and Tim. at home; a daughter. Mrs. Jeffrey Morris. Maryland Heights, Md ; her mother. Mrs. Effie Lockwood, r 1 Leesburg; and a brother. Herschel Lockwood. Bay City. Mich. Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 7. in Gardens of Memory cemetery’. Muncie Jim Howard Funeral services were held Monday for Jim Howard, 61, of Liberty Mills and father of Mrs. Larry (Goldie) Lewallen of North Webster. Death came Saturday in the Wabash County hospital. Born March 28, 1915 at Prestonsburg. Ky . he was a son of Ellice and Carolyn (Prater) Howard His marriage to Leota Shepherd took place in Kosciusko county April 17. 1944 and she survives. Mr. Howard was a member of the Assembly Church of God at North Manchester In addition to the widow and North Webster daughter, survivors are two sons. Dallas and Dale, both of Liberty Mills; four other daughters, Shirley and Shavana, both at home, Mrs. Allen (Janet) Fisher of Denver and Mrs. Ronald (Carolyn) Isabelle of Liberty Mills; 12 grandchildren; three brothers, and three sisters? Interment was in Fairview cemetery Neva Farcus Mrs Neva (Haney) Farcus, Belmont. Texas, a native of the Hastings community near Milford, died May 7 in Belmont. Survivors include a son. Louis 8.. Jr.. Richard Neilsen officiating. Bunal was in Rice cemetery. Mary Johnson Funeral services were held at 10 a m today (Wednesday) for Mrs Richard L. (Mary Louise Grisamer) Johnson, 60 of Elkhart and a half-sister of Richard Grisamer of Syracuse Death came Sunday morning at Saint Joseph's hospital in South Bend, where she had been transferred on Saturday from Elkhart hospital Mrs Johnson, a 1975 Republican candidate for mayor of Elkhart, had been active in area politics for many years and was self-employed as an accountant for 28-years She was affiliated with local. r state, and national accountant organizations. She was born in Goshen on August 1. 1915 and married to Richard L Johnson on December 31. 1951 Survivors include the husband; the half-brother; a daughter. Mrs Hugh (Donna) Johnson of Elkhart; a son. Jack Kline, r 4, was taken after becoming ill at his home, at 12:25 p.m. Mrs. Bertha Mae Searfoss, r 2, was taken for treatment following a broken hip sustained in a fall three months ago and was recently dismissed from the hospital. The unit responded to her call at 4:22 p.m.

MRS. HOERR REMAINS IN GOSHEN HOSPITAL Mrs. John C. Hoerr of near Milford remains a patient in the Goshen hospital. TAKEN TO HOSPITAL Laurel Brock, 72, r 3 Syracuse, was taken to Goshen hospital by the emergency unit at Syracuse after becoming ill at his home at 1:13 p.m. on Wednesday. He was treated by a local physician before being transported. MRS. DANE RARICK HOME FROM HOSPITAL Mrs. Dane (Hazel B.) Rarick of r 1 Milford was released from the Goshen hosptial on May 1. It was incorrectly stated in last week’s edition that she was admitted May 1. TAKEN TO HOSPITAL Dallas Strieby of Syracuse was transported to Veterans hospital at Fort Wayne by the emergency unit at Syracuse. He was taken at 6:52 a.m. today (Wednesday).
