Theres every indication the lakeland area can expect a budding boom this summer and fall One sure indication was the wide interest shown in the new home in Wawasee Heights by Kinder Runge Construction Co Don Runge sits at his desk on road 13 and fans through a card file of over 100 names of people > who visited the "Wawasee” and expressed an interest in a similar type home (Xher builders express similar confidence, but are slow to express too much confidence tn case the boom fails to materialize We re betting it does materialize Nice Florida tans are evident with Bud and Bake Cripe, former Syracuseans and now of Bradenton. Save our wetlands will be the topic under discussion led by Carl Eisfelder and a representative of the Wawasee Property Owners association All interested persons are urged to attend. Something new and a little different in funding projects for the area is the flea market planned at Saint Andrew’s United Methodist church by the church choir on July 9-10, according to Chris Koher The event is planned, eats and all. for the church organ fund. Also in the Bicentennial theme, there will be the wandering minstrels. Pied Piper, and the like. A golden opportunity’ is what Chns said, hold off on your garage sales, rent a space at the market and sell your wares It’s that time again, for the spring Jonah fish fry at Oakwood Park, by the Calvary church, on May 2L The cold weather experienced here for the past several weeks left chemical treatment uncompleted at Lake Papakeechie, and property owners are informed of no swimming or fishing allowed before May 21. Gladys (Mrs. Arnold) Culver, retired North Webster teacher yet still serving in a substitute capacity, came across a 1946 picture of a Webster second grade, with her as teacher, of which she is justly proud. She ticked off the names of the young students of whom she is proud, one being Freddie Clark owner-manager of the MAM Restaurant, in which establishment she was dining with other retired ( teachers about to dedicate the old refurbished subscription school building. There were 43 students in that class, “and today teachers think they only need 20 in a class,” she lamented. Biennial bearing a factor WEST LAFAYETTE - Don't expect too much bloom out of your flowering crabapple and apple trees this year The reason is biennial bearing 1 “Last year the flowering crabapple and apple trees blossomed forth like a spec tacular.” says John A. Wott, Purdue university extension home environment horticulturist "They also produced tremendous fruit crops.” But biennial fruiting occurs in many fruit trees and especially with apples Trees which bear heavily one year will generally fail to bloom the next. Since the buds of most fruits that open in the spring are formed during the previous summer, a heavy crop may prevent bud formation. Biennial bearing is difficult to change or correct. Wott adds A return to normal yearly flowering and fruit production, however, may be induced by early and heavy thinning (picking off* of the fruit during the year when the trees produce a big yield Thinning must be done within 30 days after blooming to be effective Poor tree vigor and cold weather damage to flower buds also cause fruit trees to bloom sparsely But if your tree or trees do not produce well this year, relax They probably had a good year in 1975. and you can’t expect the greatest in 76 On December 13, 1777, Congress established two inspector general positions, thus marking the beginning of the U.S. Army’s Office of the Inspector General, an investigative unit Between December 29 and December 31. 1776, General Washington escorted almost 1,000 Hessians captured in the Battle of Trenton across the Delaware River into Pennsylvania and then reoccupied Trenton
