14 YEARS AGO, MAY 17,1962 Mrs. Levi Beer. Mrs. Don Beer, Mrs. Charles Weisser, Mrs. Luther Steffen, Miss Esther Beer and Miss Edith Baumgartner drove to Cissna Park. 111., this morning to be present at a 12 o'clock luncheon at the home of Mrs. Urban Bauer, the former Man- Beer of Milford. Milford street and water department workmen were busy the first part of the week repairing a broken water main on Maple street near the Randall Dewart and Mace Hollar residences. Marion Deeter stated the the main had broken when it had settled as a result of the laying of the sewer near there in the fall of 1960 David Cory, son of Mr. and Mrs. Neal Cory of r 2 Milford, placed second in the essay contest which followed the annual trip to the Shrine Circus at Fort Wayne earlier this year. Some 1.000 third graders from county schools made the trip year David received a miniature fez and a cash prize for his second place winning essay Miss Lois Evans is his teacher. Mrs. Leon Tucker of Milford was named as “Mother of the Year" at the Milford Christian church during the services there on Sunday morning. May 13. Mrs Carl Shearer, was chosen as first runner-up and Mrs. Randall Dewart as second runner-up 24 YEARS AGO. MAY 15. 1952 Miss Virginia Hartter was chosen by the upper six grades of Milford school to be “Miss Milford" in the “Queen of the Lakes" contest at the Mermaid festival to be held at North Webster. June 27. Virgil Eugene Wuthrich has been notified by the Wabash Life Insurance Co.. Indianapolis, that he will be the candidate from this district for the SSOO scholarship awarded annually by the Company Mr and Mrs. Henry Beer announce the engagement of their daughter. Amy Hollar, who lives west of Milford, had his potato patch washed away during the recent rains and told farmers if they found his newly cut potatoes around he would like to have them. Employment up in April Employment in nonfarm establishments rose to 1,967,500 in April, up 25.200 from March while unemployment dropped 20,400 to 138,900 during the period, according to preliminary estimates made by the Indiana Employment Security division. John F. Coppes. director of the division, said that the reduction in unemployment brought Indiana's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate down to 6.1 per cent from 6.2 per ,cent in March. All groups except government contributed to the employment increase. Coppes said. Government employment decreased slightly because of spring vacation at schools. Seasonal increases in farm and ployment combined with the gain in nonfarm employment raised the total by 29.600 to 2,214,100. he rioted. Kimmell driver in track accident Hazel V. Delp, 56. Kimmell, suffered a laceration to the back of her head when her pick-up truck overturned in a ditch at 9:10 a.m. Sunday. She was headed north on Noble county road 1000 W just about three quarters of a mile south of 200S, crossing the Little Tippecanoe River bridge when she braked her vehicle, lost control and skidded 45 feet before overturning the pick-up The accident was blamed on excessive speed for road conditions according to a statement by state trooper Michael Pershing. Brakes fail and car hits meter
The brakes on a 1969 Oldsmobile. belonging to Bob's Ford of Nappanee and driven by Lorena Davis of r 1 Larwill, failed in the 100 block of South Huntington street in Syracuse at 10 a.m. Monday, causing an accident.
