Superstar day set at Lakeland Youth Center

The Lakeland Youth Center in Syracuse will stage a superstar day on Saturday. May 15, with competition to start at the center at 9 a m and will be for youths in grades three through 12. Center director Dan Caskey has encouraged all area youth to compete in the following events: Standing broad jump, physical fitness test, softball throw, target throw, bike race, weight lifting, free throw, obstacle course and 50-yard dash Entrants will compete with those in their own grade with boys and girls competing separately

Jonesville Frontier Canoe race set for middle of May

The Jonesville (Mich.) Warm weather brings golfers out Many persons took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather last week end to play golf on the area courses. All three of the 18-hole courses in the Lake Wawasee area saw action over the week end. Don Byrd, pro-owner at the Wawasee golf course, said the response to the weather was "very good.” Steve Roderick said there was “heavy play” at South Shore and Bob Carlson said play was “very heavy” at Maxwelton South Shore Roderick, who is in his 10th year at the South Shore golf club, siad the course is in excellent shape. Some 50 new golf carts have been purchased and tees have been enlarged. The dining room and bar facilities at the course have been remodeled. The dining room, managed by D W. Greene, features a salad bar every night. Tom Tuttle is owner of the course and Bill Galloway serves as greens superintendent Maxwelton Carlson, who is in his second year at Maxwelton. said his course was in excellent shape Drainage work has been done and 40 new golf carts have been purchased New tees are also under construction this year "" . By ESTI KEEN The green and gold golfers undershot Elkhart Central 331335 for a victory April 13. Rob Zurcher captured the Wawasee low medalist honor for the A team with 81 strokes. In B team competition Mark Hoover earned the low medalist spot to pull the Warriors a 341-356 win. Thursday Elkhart Memorial provided tough competition in a 321-318 victory. Gary Miller fired an outstanding 75. three over par and placed himself in the lowmedalist spot. The B team was defeated with a 349-346 verdict — 83 was the low medalist tally by Brian Siabaugh. Second In Tourney South Shore golf course was bustling Saturday while the fourway tournament was underway. Wawasee performed second under South Bend Riley whose score totaled 305 Wawasee tied Homestead with 316 but took over when they won the play-offs.

By ESTI KEEN The WHS boys' track squad led the show at their home battling grounds April 8 when they went against Manchester. They ran up 70 pants over Manchester's 56. Spearman and Rhodes scored double individual victories for the Warriors. Spearman in the high hurdles clocking 15.8 and 21.7 in the low hurdles, Rhodes posted 153' 10” in discus and 54' 5 1 4” in the shot put. Kroh took the 440 with a 55.2 clocking and was a member of the winning mile relay (Kroh. Hamman Stoffle. Conway) with 3:49.3. Also Winning for the Warriors was Ousley in the high jump with 5’ 10”, Gilbert in the two mile pacing a 10:30.1. The B team , lost 4067.
