Wawasee FEA wins state honors

Wawasee’s FEA (Future Educators in Action) chapter won several honors and awards at the state FEA convention held Saturday at the Indiana-Purdue campus at Indianapolis Seven members plus sponsor Terry Iden attended the annual conference Brenda Rhodes, daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Rhodes of Pierceton, took highest individual honors by winning the title of Miss Indiana FEA over six other state finalists Brenda won the title after presenting a speech to a panel of seven judges and by participating in an ex tensive interview session As Miss Indiana FEA 1977. He also gave a speech and participated in an interview session Sweepstakes Trophy The Wawasee chapter scrapbook won the sweepstakes trophy for the best chapter scrapbook in the state. Wawasee historian Dyanne Tracy designed the scrapbook cover, originated the layout, and did the art work throughout the book. vention The award marked the fifth time in the last six years that Wawasee has won the award. Wawasee won second place in the state honor chapter award competition behind Culver Community high school. This award is given to the chapter which completes the most projects and club activities plus participation in local, area, and state FEA activities. Debbie Engelberth, president of the Wawasee FEA. accepted the award. Outgoing FEA state president .Amy Vanlaningham. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hazel Vanlaningham of Milford, was presented a special plaque from the IFEA for her contribution to the state organization during her

1975-76 presidency Amy installed Jeannette Dudak of Merrillville as the new IFEA president in the afternoon installation ceremonies. Also installed during the ceremonies was Dan Martin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Martin of Milford. Dan was installed as state vice-presidept of area two for 1976-77. Dan was elected to the office last fall at the FEA regional conference at Culver. Outgoing vice-president Debbie Engelberth. also of Wawasee, installed the new vice-president who will coordinate the activities of the District FjEA, preside at the 1976 regional Conference, and serve on the IFEA executive council. Angie Jessop and Brenda Rhodes served as Wawasee's voting delegates in the election of officers and in the business session of the c invention. FEA will conclude another successful year by helping the LCEA sponsor ride-abike for the retarded day op April 25 and byholding the annual teacher tea on May 4.

Milford Scouts active in March By GARY BRAY The Milford Boy Scouts, troop 747, participated in several activities during March. On March 6 and 7, the Scouts had an overnight campout at the Pioneer Trails near Cromwell. The Corp of Honor held an awards night, carry-in family dinner on March 13, in the Christian church CAC building in Milford. Larry Flannery was awarded for selling the most burglar alarms with a $25 gift certificate to purchase any Boy Scout item. Other top sellers received Boy Scout pocket knives. They were Gary Bray, second; Ryan Niles, third; and Jeff Richards, fourth. The final March event was a bike hike on March 27. Seven scouts, plus scoutmaster, David Benning and scout leader, HarryHarman. rode bikes to a farm near Tippecanoe Lake. The boys fished and had lunch while on their bike hike GRASS FIRE RUN MADE Brian Smith of the Juday addition south of Syracuse reported a grass fire in the addition at 3:25 p.m Saturday. The fire was started from burning trash.

Milford junior high school recently was honored with a noaccident certificate by the Chicago Motor Club-AAA. The school was recognized for its record of no-accidents during the last school year at intersections patrolled by members of the

school safety patrol. This makes the eighth successive year the school has maintained a perfect accident record. The motor club’s no-accident awards are designed to call attention to the life-saving work of the school safety patrols. Since pioneering the school safety patrol movement in 1920. Goshen Moose lodge has a golf league The Goshen Moose lodge will have a Monday night twilight golf league at two courses this spring and summer. One will be at the Wawasee course, the other at Raber's in Bristol. Moose members in the Syracuse and other Kosciusko county areas can sign to play at either course. The league starts on Monday, May 3, with 12 weeks of action. Prizes will be awarded at a banquet for participants in August. Action will be for nine holes, starting at 5 p.m.

the Chicago Motor Club-AAA has made the patrol one of its principal traffic safety activities. Through the years, the patrol is credited with the saving of more than 20.000 children’s lives in the club’s Illinois-Indiana territoryalone. Motor club president Gerald W. Cavanagh, in praising the award-winning school, said that the “school safety patrol movement is based or. the idea that young people are dependable and capable of leadership if given proper guidance.
