AROUND TZV^-k A group of five local fishermen struck it big in Florida recently, as this photo indicates, displaying a catch of about 300 pounds of Amberjack. In the front are Larry Griffith. Ron Silveus and boat captain C, M. Davis. Standing are Raydean Hile. Paul Kerlin and E. P. ("Pat”) McCarty. The catch was made 25 miles off the coast of Sarasota. Fla., on the charter boat Shark Os the catch, the largest fish weighed 40 pounds, the average 45 pounds. The largest fish, a 40-pounder, was caught by Hile and Kerlin. with the longest weighing 32 pounds. Lola Pinney, beauty consultant for Merle Norman, is announcing this week of Kris Koontz as manager for Rose Garden Beauty Salon. Kris is not new to the community, however, being the daughter of Donald and Jean Niles of Syracuse. ~'- A patriotic red. white and blue awning went up at the Discount Mart on Friday. Comes word this week of another lottery sweepstakes winner, the Don Berrys of Xenia. Ohio. (She is the former Lu Ann Longenbaugh of Syracuse and purchases her tickets from a small grocery.) The couple was notified of being a SI,OOO winner and ask to be present for a televised drawing in the one million dollar sweepstakes, for which Loren and Luella Longenbaugh journied to the Berry home to stay with one-year-old Michael. This drawing was the Bth million dollar drawing to be held in Ohio, and the couple will have another SI,OOO as 10 numbers were drawn with the Berrys being the 10th. Don works with digital computers at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Overheard: ‘‘No one goes before his time, unless the boss leaves early.” Don Dodds, assistant pro at Wawasee golf for the past two years, recently completed a week-long educational seminar on golf at Toledo. Ohio. Don reports the course is looking good and everything points to a good golfing season. The John Glons are building a new home near Waco Drive. Townspeople of Milford and North Webster are delighted at news that tennis courts will be constructed at the school sites in their towns. This is in keeping with the ballooning of public interest in tennis, and is well considered by the Lakeland school board. New courts will also be added to the present courts at W awasee high. Those already in use are usually filled with a waiting list to get on. The latest change in local banking circles is the definite possibility of a branch of the Salem Bank and Trust Co. of Gcshen to be constructed just north of the county line roacl in

Elkhart county, about a half mile north of Syracuse city proper. Syracuse lake resident Frank E. Ridenoure, a retiree of the Goshen bank, is gathering signatures of residents in that area to present to the Elkhart county plan commission seeking a variance of the 1.76-acre tract from agriculture to commercial. "If all goes well, we’d like to begin grading in the area within 45 days,” Ridenoure states. The bank, to be designed after their New Paris bank, will sit on a tract 240 feet along the county line road and 230 feet along SR 13. The low area just north of the bank site will be dredged for a small lake, a point of beautification. The Salem Bank and Trust Co. has a bank at Wakarusa. Millersburg and New Paris, plus three branches. —o — Busy — busy — is Pastor Thomas Douglas of the Syracuse Church of God. having hardlyreturned from a Holy Land trip when he left for Decatur. 111. to minister a crusade there from March 28 through last Sunday. Comes good word today, the little black poodle with red collar which bit Lois (Mrs. Robert) Murray the last of March — has been found — had had its shots — and Lois is on the mend. Thefts reported in Syracuse area David Shields, 701 South Huntington street. Syracuse, reported to Syracuse police at 10:30 a m. Friday of a Chunky Cat CB antennh -taken from the rear of his car. ’ The theft occurred sometime after 7 p.m. on Thursday. The antenna was unscrewed from his car parked at his residence. Forrest Stahley, r 1 Syracuse, told police Saturday morning of a T-Berry CB radio being stolen from his locked car sometime Friday night J l'he radio was new and the car was parked at the Stahley residence during the theft. TRANSPORTED TO HOSPITAL Wayne White, 65. r 2 Syracuse, was transported to Veterans hospital in Fort W'ayne following a call to the Syracuse emergencyunit at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday. The man was reported as having lost partial control of his hands and feet.
