A HEARTY SOUP FOR A HUNGRY MAN The brothy smell of this homemade so'up is calculated to arouse the appetite; its hearty goodness will satisfy it. The secret of its flavor is a generous measure of the original Worcestershire sauce. HEARTY MEATBALL AND BEAN SOUP 1 pound ground lean beef 3/4 cup soft bread crumbs 3 tablespoons catsup 1 egg, lightly beaten 1 teaspoon salt Original Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons oil 2 beef bouillon cubes 2 cups boiling water 1 cup carrots cut into 1/2-inch thick slices 1 can (1 lb.) baked beans in tomato sauce * 1 package (9 oa.) frozen cut green beans 1/3 cup alphabet or other noodles In a medium bowl lightly combine beef, bread crumbs, catsup, egg. salt and 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce. Shape into about 18 meatballs. In a large skillet heat oil; brown meatballs on all sides. Remove and set aside. In a medium saucepan dissolve bouillon cubes in boiling water. Add carrots; simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, browned meatballs, baked beans, green beans and noodles. Bring to the boiling point. Reduce heat and simmer, covered, for 10 minutes. Serve hot with crisp Italian bread and green salad, if desired Yield: 6 portions.

Calif., home — to realize the extent of that fragrance Mrs. Plata is owner of a condiment business and spends most of her days in * her laboratory mixing and blending pungent and heady spices and herbs which add spice to many dishes “1 am the business," she said. minutes. When cooked, set in warm place for one-half hour. Served garnished (if desired) with grated Cheddar cheese, chopped black olives, pimien to strips and parsley. \ Serves four to six. CHILI CON CARNE . 1 pound ground beef (or your choice of meats) 2 tablespoons oil (or lard) Contents of 1 packet of chili con came mix 1 cup tomato sauce 1 cup chicken broth or 1 cup water and 1 bouillon cube 1 to 2 cups pinto beans (cooked) Saute the ground beef in the oil. Add seasoning mix, tomato sauce and chicken broth. Simmer five minutes. Add beans. Columbians visit Ruthmere Museums Members of the Columbian Reading Circle of Milford and two guests. Mrs. Floyd Yoder and Mrs Bruce Bultemeier, traveled to Elkhart Monday evening, March 29. for a guided tour of Ruthmere, a house museum. This mansion was originally built in 1908 for Albert R. Beardsley, one of the early organizers of Miles Laboratories, Inc In 1969 it was bought by the Andrew Hubble Beardsley Foundation. The ornate decorations have been painstakingly restored to their original grandeur and it has been furnished by some of the original beautiful furniture. supplemented by other pieces .of comparable quality of the same era It has been opened to the public as a house museum since September 8. 1973 The next meeting will be April 26 m the home of Mrs Herbert Baumgartner. New officers installed for Syracuse OES Approximately 75 members and guests of Syracuse Chapter No. 283 Order of the Eastern Star gathered in the chapter room on March 27 to observe installation ceremonies for the 1976-1977 officers The room was appropriately decorated in a Bicentennial theme, the worthy matron's motto "In God We Trust” in the east and her emblem the Liberty Bell against a background of red and white on blue net. Widgawa sponsoring one-day seminar
The Widgawa Chapter of National Secretaries Association is sponsoring a one-day seminar at Warsaw Community senior high school. East Smith street in Warsaw on April 24. The seminar, “Communication Primary Mothers hold March meeting nights Thirteen members of the Primary Mothers club at Syracuse responded to roll call for the March 1 meeting in the home of Mrs. Terry McLeod. Mrs. Phil Keim was a guest and Mrs. Robert Carlson was welcomed as a new member. Plans were made for an Easter egg hunt for children of members at 1:30 on the afternoon of April 17. Mrs. James Tranter is chairman of the hunt, assisted by Mrs. Jerry deSomer. Mrs. Carlson, and Mrs. Jerry Kirkdorfer. Co-hostesses were Mrs. Douglas Schmahl and Mrs. Leroy Sweatland. Cancer Program Mrs. Dannette Rosner of the cancer society, presented the evening program on March 15 at the home of Mrs. Steve Smith. “Cancer and the Personal You” was the topic of Mrs. Rosner’s program. Co-hostesses for the evening were Mrs. Kirkdorfer and Mrs. George Vitaniemi. There were 13 members and two guests present. During the business meeting, a donation was made to the youth center and to the Camp Fire Girls for funding needed. Mrs. deSomer will be hostess for the April 5 meeting with Mrs. Rick Baker and w Mrs. Tranter assisting. Members were reminded to bring the Easter egg Legg containers to this meeting. LAKELAND LOCAL Mr. and Mrs. Levi Chupp returned Sunday from two weeks visit with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ron (Pam) Leßlanc of Revere, Mass. Prajedes Kelly Carvajal to Carl L. Gay. son of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil A. Steele of Syracuse. The date has been set for May 12, at the home of the parents of the bride-to-be with a reception following the ceremony. The bride-to-be is a 1973 graduate of Wawasee high school and is attending Goshen college. Her fiance is a 1971 graduate of Elkhart Central high school and is attending Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne. He is presently employed at Wawasee Electronics in Syracuse.
