North Webster woman dies in shopping center crash
Mrs. Dennis (Patricia) Holmes, 21 of r 1 North Webster died from injuries sustained in a broadside collision with a semirig on Saturday afternoon at the entrance to the Lakes Village Shopping Center at Warsaw. County coroner Kenneth Wyman pronounced the woman dead at the scene of the mishap at 4:30 p m with multiple internal injuries and a fracture of the neck. Kosciusko county officers and state police investigated and reported Mrs. Holmes was driving west on U.S. 30 and turned her small compact car south to cross over the eastbound lane for entry to the shopping center. She was then struck broadside by the semi-rig driven by Charles J. Gera, 35, of Sharon, Pa., who was eastbound Brakes Gera reported seeing that the Holmes woman was not going to stop and applied his brakes in an attempt to avoid the collision Mrs. Holmes vehicle was a total loss estimated at $2,000 with the entire right side demolished Approximately SSOO was listed as 111 LAWRENCE B. MOORE Lawrence B. Moore Funeral services were conducted at 10:30 a m Saturday in the Mishler funeral home at Milford for Lawrence B Moore. 91, Milford. Death came at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Murphy Medical Center at Warsaw He had been a resident of the Prairie- View resb home in that city for the past 34 months Moore was the father of the late Mrs Wilbur (Berneice) Baumgartner He was retired from the Conn Band Instrument Company at Elkhart The deceased was born November 2. 1884 at Middlebury He was united in marriage to the farmer Lola Allen She preceded him in death on January 28. 1967 He was a member of Saint Mark's United Methodist church at Goshen. Surviving are the Milford son-in-law. one great-granddaughter and one great-great-grandchild.' * Rev. Steinmetz Funeral services were held Thursday for Howard J. Steinmetz. 70. Phoenix. Anz , brother of Mrs Eldon (Marie) Lutes of Syracuse Death came, on Monday of an apparent heart attack He had resided in Arizona since 1980 A native of New Paris, he was born to Elwood and Nellie Steinmetz on November 19. 1905 He was first married to the former Margaret Schlabaugh and she died in 1962 He later married Nora Forbes and she survives. In addition to the widow and Syracuse sister, he is survived by two sons, Richard and John; (our stepchildren, another sister. Mrs Howard (Eva) Pletcher of Goshen ; and two brothers Max of East Gary and Ray of Monon William H. McDonald Funeral services were held Tuesday for William H McDonald’ 81. of Bloomington and father of Mrs. Jeanne Nelson of Syracuse. Death came on Saturday in the Bloomington hospital following an illness of several weeks. Mr McDonald was born October 26, 1894 at Coldwater. Ohio. He was a board member of the Saint Charles Catholic church at Bloomington, member of the Bloomington hospital board, and a veteran of World War I. He was retired as chairman of the board with the Muree Company at Bloomington. In addition to the Syracuse daughter, he is survived by the * wife, the former Mary Quinn; two other daughters, a son; 13 grandchildren; and four great-ip-andchildrcn Interment was in Rose Hill MauMtleum

She was a member of the Sweetser United Methodist church. Funeral services were held Tuesday with burial at Marion. Survivors include the husband; a five-week old daughter, Stephanie Brooke Holmes; her parents; a brother; and the maternal and paternal grandparents. all of Sweetser Mrs. Ishmael Rookstool Funeral services were held Tuesday for Mrs. Elizabeth <Libby) Rookstool, 50, 201 North Huntington. Syracuse Death came at 1:40 a m. Sunday when she was pronounced dead on arrival at Goshen hospital of an apparent heart attack suffered while at the American Legion home in Syracuse Mrs Rookstool was born at Syracuse on March Z 3, 1926. a daughter of Anderson and Ina (Bushong) Wogoman. She resided in the Syracuse area most of her life. Her marriage to Ishmael «Rookstool took place on March 24. 1945 and he preceded her in death July of 1972 She was a member of the Syracuse Legion Auxiliary Survivors include three sons, Terry of Syracuse. Gary, Goodiand. Fla . and Bruce, at home, one daughter. Mrs. Jimmy (Carol) Boyer. Syracuse. five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Reatha McDonald of Syracuse; and four brothers. Rolland of Syracuse. Heche Funeral services were held Monday for TJielma B Heche. 77, formerly of the North Webster community Death came early Saturday in Prairie View rest home at Warsaw, where she had resided since 1970. She had been in failing health for several years and death was due to complications. A resident of the North Webster community for 29 years, moving from Delphos. Ohio, where she was bom on July 7.1898, she was a housewife. Her husband. Harry E Heche, Sr., to whom she was married in 1930. preceded her in death in 1968 She is survived by one son. Harry Heche. Jr , of North Webster; six grandchildren; a brother Ronald Faudree of Delphos; and two sisters. Mrs Helen Roffelson and Kathleen McAtoan. both of Lambertville. N. J Burial was in Six Mile cemetery near Bluffton Orba Arthur Peffley Orba Arthur Peffley, 85. of Elkhart, father of Mrs Virgil (Nancy) Zimmerman of Milford, died Sunday. March 28. m the Fountainview Ptace. Elkhart He had been a resident of Fountainview since last July after he suffered a stroke. Bom June 15.1890 in Milford to Jacob and Louvina (Clay) Peffiey. he lived in Elkhart for 60 years. He was united in marriage to Carrie Bell Gross on April 22. 1911. A burnisher at the Buercher Instrument Co.. Elkhart, for 35 years. Mr Peffley retired as manager of the Shell bulk plant in 1950 Mr Peffley was a member of the Zion Missionary church in Elkhart for 42 years and was Ute last ordained deacon of the district Surviving in addition, to his widow, Carrie, and daughter, Nancy, are a son. great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 30, in the Zion Missionary church, Elkhart. Officiating at the service was Rev John Moran, Rev. Quinton Everest and Rev. Mark Burgess. Mrs. Louis Barth Funeral services were held Thursday for Mrs. Mayme W. Barth. 85, of Little Chapman Lake, r 1 Warsaw. Death was on Tuesday in Millers Merry Manor nursing home at Warsaw following an extended illness of about seven years. She was a sister of Nellie Jones of Syracuse. Bom in Whitley county on May 30. 1890, she was a daughter of Charles and Ida Ann (Grimes) Wineland She was a member of the Lake Lovers club of Chapman Lake and attended the North Webster Church of God. Her husband. Louis Barth, to whom she was married August 29.1937. preceded her in death in 1960 She is also survived by one other sister and several nieces and nephews. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery. Cecil Pickett Funeral services were held Saturday for Cecil N. Pickett, 63. of 1061 East Centennial street. Nappanee. Death came Tuesday in Elkhart hospital following a brief period of illness. The deceased and Delbert Evans were planning to open the new moderately priced furniture store located next to The Maryann in Wawasee Village at Syracuse. Boro on June 29, 1912 in Pleasantville, he was the son of Wen and Dezzia (McCammon) Pickett, and served as a former partner of Evay’s Bargain center for 15 years His marriage to the former Margaret Stilwell occurred November 30, 1930 in Mishawaka and she survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Donald (Barbara ) Kimble, Galion. Ohio, Mrs. Robert (Patricia) Newcomer of Muscatine, lowa, and Mrs. Glen • Susan) Rummel, Jr . Fort Hood. (Helen) Phillips. 64, Big Barbee Lake, r 1 Leesburg, formerly of Marion. Mrs. Phillips died early Monday in her home. She was a retired registered nurse at the Veteran’s Administration hospital at Marion. She had lived at Barbee Lake for the past two years. Mrs Phillips was a member of the North Webster United Methodist church. Surviving are the husband; one son. Henry 11, w Carmel; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald Cole of Anderson and Mrs. David Thomas of Scottsburg; one brother, Chester S. Dickey of Anderson; one sister, Mrs. Winnie Stephenson of Kokomo; and seven grandchildren Friends will be received after 2 p m today at the funeral home. Rev A. C. Heisler Funeral services will be held at 2 p m today (Wednesday) in the Camp Creek Church of the Brethren for Charles Franklin Heisler, 89, r 1 Etna Green Heisler, father of Mrs. Varner (Anna> Chance of North Webster; died Monday at 12:47 a m. m the Prairie View rest home at Warsaw following an illness of three months The deceased was born on September 26, 1886 in Kosciusko county to John and Catharine (Bules' Heisler. He was married on April 16. 1916 to Mina Shively She preceded him in death in 1965. He was a member of the Camp Creek church and had been a Sunday School teacher there for many years. Hill Funeral services for John C. Hill, 90, of r 1 North Webster were held today (Wednesday) with Father Thomas N. Sandy officiating. Death came Monday morning in Saint Joseph hospital at Fort Wayne and was due to complications following an illness of about three weeks. A retired farmer, he was born at Mentone on March 24, 1886, a son of Stephen and Rene (Brown) Hill and was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko county. His wife, me former Esther Auten. preceded him in death in May of 1967 Survivors include three sons. Floyd of North Webster, John, Fort Wayne, and Roy. Arcadia, Calif; one daughter, Mrs. Gladys Prescott, Alaska; three grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Flo Van Gilder of Pierceton and Mrs. William (Delta) Botkin, Sarasota. Fla. Mrs. Fred Banta has returned to her rural Syracuse home for a recuperation period following a five week stay in Goshen hospital for a heart attack and two weeks at the home of a sister in Goshen after her release from the hospital. TRANSPORT TO HOSPITAL The emergency unit at Syracuse responded to a call at 11:05 a.m. Sunday for Irvin Wogoman, 76, 712 S. Huntington street in Syracuse. Wogoman became ill at his home and was transported to Goshen hospital.
