Faye Dunaway, 'Condor' co-star, prefers strong life commitments

Fave Dunaway has been called one of the finest American dramatic actresses of her day. The Bette Davis of the 70s, a woman ruled by her emotions, the hottest female star in Hollywood, and. by critic Pauline Kael, “A. . creamy Fragonard in motion, a screen goddess." More or less, all of the above is true. The dynamic. Southern-born Dorothy Faye Dunaway who soared to international fame for her widely-acclaimed performance in “Bonnie and Clyde" has only recently redeemed the potential for superstardom, last war in the hit film "Chinatown." for which she was nominated for an academy Award. For although she worked in many films during the seven year penod between "Bonnie and Clyde” and “Chinatown." she also appeared on the stage and in an occasional television spot. The Sydney Pollack film, a drama of suspejnse and pursuit, stars RobeiJ Bedford. Cliff Robertson, Max von Sydow and John Houseman. The screenplay by Lorenzo Semple. Jr. and David Rayfiel is based on the novel “Six Days! of the Condor"! by James Grady. Schneider produced and Pollack directed the Wildwood Enterprises. Inc. co-production released by Paramount. In Color. Opens Friday at the Goshen Theatre. “Kathy is an interesting woman. but she’s frightened of getting involved with people. In the film she's literally abducted by Bob (Bedford —a fugitive CIA man) and she is then forced to become involved and become committed to helping him." Shp feels that Kathy is a good roleijfor a “woman," but does not like the label "woman s role." “I mean Kathy is just a good part.” But this is not the only reason she accejpted the role in “Three Days of tie Condor." “llalso go by the people I'll be working with. Disney veteran Dean Jones bugged in 'Blackboard's Ghost'

Actor Dean Jones is listed in a celebrity guide as “an American who plays well-behaved fellows.” When the fellow isn't, there's a good reason. In Walt Disney’s “Blackbeard’s Ghost," set for rerelease. the fellow is not at his best. But he does have a good reason: there’s this ghost who won’t quit bugging him. The comedy. originally released in 1968. stars Jones as harried track coach of a small community college who accidentally conjures the spirit of Edward Teach, known also as the infamous pirate Blackbeard. Peter Ustinov plays the Mack guard. The film also stars Suzanne Pleshette. Jones is a veteran of eight Disney movies, six of which are on Variety’s, list of all-time box office champions. They are “The Love Bug," “That Dam Cat." “Snowball Express." "The Ugly Dachshund." "$1,000,000 Duck" and of course. “Blackbeard's Ghost." • Bom in Decatur. Alab., the only child of Andrew and Nolia Jones. Dean left home at the age of 15 for New Orleans to seek a singing career While waiting for his chance in New Orleans. Dean worked as a coal loader, timber cutter, cotton picker and restaurant “pearl diver" (dishwasher). He finally landed a singing job in a French Quarter club that paid three dollars a night plus dinner. After four months, the club folded and Jones headed back to Decatur to finish high school. He spent a year at Kentucky's Asbury college as a voice major then signed up for a four-year hitch in the Naval Air Corps. At the end of his tour of duty, Jones was hired as a singer in a melodrama at Knott’s Berry Farm, a tourist attraction near Los Angeles. Composer Vernon Duke saw him and introduced him to MGM producer Arthur Freed, who arranged for Jones' screen test. Dean was signed by the studio. His acting career was launched, and his singing career came to a halt. However, several years later.
