Coordination meeting held today on migrant project •
Frances Guerra, council liaison for the Girl Scouts of the USA migrant communities project, based in San Antonio, Texas, will be in Elkhart today (Wednesday) to meet with the council coordinator of the local migrant project. Mrs Tom Alexander, Milford, and staff members of the Indiana Lakeland Girl Scout Council to help finalize plans for a Girl Scout program designed specifically to serve the children of migrant workers and MexicanAmerican settle our families She will also be helping members become acquainted with new, bilingual materials which will be Field tested this year The Girl Scouts hope to make it possible for the girls to participate in a continuing scouting program wherever they move and when they return to their homes by alerting the Girl Scout Council they will be mdving to when they leave us Frances Guerra has been working with the migrant communities project since 1974 when they started pilot projects in four Texas councils and four Great Lakes area Councils This year 28 councils from Texas to the Great Lakes area will participate in the project

Martha Circle The morning Martha circle had 12 members and two guests, Betty ? Eaton and Mrs Jay Busscher. both of Syracuse, in attendance Mrs Paul Pollock, president, led the business portion of the meeting. The lesson on “Missions" was by Mrs C. R Bitzer, explaining the mission work by the local church and how much more could be done. Hostesses were Mrs Gary Ever and Mrs Don dragg. I ahs Circle Ten members were present for the afternoon Lois circle with Opal Nolan, president, in charge The lesson was given by Mrs Roy Wilkinson, and was on the Bicentennial year entitled. “The Nation Yet to Be.” The book was written by James Armstrong Mrs C. Sorosis club elects officers The Sorosis meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Paul Brembeck near Milford on Monday. March 1. at 7:30 p.m. Mrs. Herbert (Athena) Gawthrop was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. Bill (Adele) Wollman will represent the club Mrs Brembeck stated she had met with the representative of the Columbians and it was decided to forego a reciprocity meeting this year with a suggestion for a style shownext year Mrs Dermis Sharp introduced Mrs. Ronald Brown who presented a delightful program with slides about a recent two month trip aboard a Yugoslav freighter. They left from Jacksonville. Fla., crossed the Atlantic Ocean to Casa Blanca and various other ports in the Mediterranean, then back to New York. Her commenting on the ports of call and interesting sidelights about her fellow passengers were informative and amusing The hostess served a butter pecan dessert to 14 members and one guests. March 1. with Mrs Lewis Speicher and Mrs John Hurd as hostesses Mrs Steven Haab presided. Several comforters were knotted for the home of the handicapped at Morton. 111. The March birthdays of Miss Esther Getz, Mrs Robert Hoerr. Mrs Steven Haab and Miss Edith Baumgartner were honored when the group sang “Happy Birthday”. “Happy Anniversary'’ was sung for Mrs. Ted Speicher and Mrs. John Hurd “Christian Walk Carefully" was sung in unison The devotional leader. Local garden club aids preserve project
It was officially announced today that a SSOO grant has been made by the Indiana American Revolution Bicentennial commission to the Hemlock Bluff Bicentennial Nature Preserve Project. The preservation of this area is the official Bicentennial project of the Garden Club of Indiana and its 300 local clubs. .Along with the nature con servancy the garden clubs are preserving this unique Jackson county site as an example of Indiana as it was 200 yfcars ago Mrs Paul M Cook of In-I dianapolis. chairman of the project, reports that the garden clubs have already raised over one-half of the $15,000 cost of the 40 acre tract along Guthrie Creek The steep bluff is one of only half a dozen remaining ih Indiana , that supports the magnificent Canadian Hemlock. The site includes the state s largest Hemlock tree > The SSOO grant is to be used for trail development and other expenses of preparing Hemlock Bluff for 'public visitation. Methodist Women hear plight of American Indian The Milford United Methodist Women met Thursday. Feb. 12, in the church parsonage with Mrs. Everett Owens, hostess and Mrs. Robert Brooks assistant hostess (hiring the refreshment hour. Mrs. James Longfellow led the group in devotions using the 24th Psalm and in singing “Kum By Ya" followed by reading Hebrews 11:1. Mrs. T. A. Miller presented a program entitled "The Utmost Good Faith" which projected many problems the Indian Nations face in the United States today. She gave an interesting account of the hundreds of treaties that have been made and broken by the US government in the name of progress during the past 200 years. Mrs. James Brooks will be the hostess in her home on Thursday. March 11, at 1:30 p.m. for the next meeting. Mrs. Harlan Wuthrich will present the program. GROVES - HAYWOOD ENGAGEMENT — Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Groves. Jr., of Milford are announcing the betrothel of their daughter Jeri Lynn to Mark Anthony Haywood, son of Mrs. Loden a Haywood. Warsaw and Robert Haywood, Warsaw. Miss Groves is a 1974 graduate of Wawasee high school. She is employed by E and M Meat Market in Warsaw. Mark attended Warsaw high school and is now irf the L’S Navy stationed at the Great Lakes Naval base in Illinois. A spring wedding is being planned.

Auxiliary selects 1976 Girls' Staters
Seventeen members of the American Legion Auxiliary, unit 223, at Syracuse met in the legion home on February 24 at which time Girls' Staters were selected. Kim Beezley. daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Beezley. was selected as representative to girls state in June; and Rhonda Byrd, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Byrd, was named alternate. The 35th session of Hoosier Girls' State on the campus of Indiana State university, in Terre Haute will be in June. Kim. 16. is the daughter of Paul and Jill Beezley. r 3 Syracuse. Her hobbies include water skiing and swimming. She is actively . involved ifi cheerleading, track and is secretary of the Community Hands 4-H club. Her majors in school are business, math, science and English Rhonda, also 16. is the daughter of Robert and Mary Jane Byrd. She is on the junior class executive council at school and a varsity cheerleader. Rhonda is active in swimming, gymnastics and track Miss Carol Hollingsworth, kindergarten teacher, showed slides for Americanism month. It was announced the American FUNNY MONEY - Counterfeit money is staging a comeback. The Secret Service says that after a three-year decline in counterfeiting, more than S4B million in bogus bills was printed during the fiscal year which ended June 30.
