B Hoyshould have his long wished dream come closer to reality of a rose for friendship week to be declared and observed in the state of Indiana r No dissenting \ole was given in the House or Senate last week regarding the resolution for the fourth week of June each year, and Governor Otis Bowen is expected sign the proclamation in the near future. A House Resolution signed by Representative Thames L. Mauzy and Representative Loren E Winger reads as follows: HOUSE RESOLUTION WHEREAS, one of the most important aspects of human relations is friendship; and WHEREAS, too often, acts of friendship are overlooked and we forget to thank our friends just for being friends; and WHEREAS, the rose symbolizes the act of friendship; and WHEREAS, a group in northern Indiana has recommended that a special day and week be set aside to communicate friendship; Now Therefore. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF INDIANA. THE SENATE CONCURRING: Section I. That the Governor of the State of Indiana be requested to designate the fourth week in June as “A Rose for Friendship Week." Section 2. That the (iovernor of the State of Indiana be requested to designate the Wednesday during the fourth week in June as "Friendship Day". Section 3. That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to all of the members of the Indiana Congressional delegation with a request that they undertake to have a similar resolution adopted by Congress. Section 4. That the Principal Clerk of the House transmit a copy of this resolution to the Governor'of the Slate of Indiana. His efforts for the resolution and declaration all started when a single long stemmed rose was given by him to grace a lovely crystal vase on a secretary's desk, in place of an ugly faded rose, in a beautifully and ex pensively furnished office on a hot humid day in 1961 The office was m downtown Chicago where

More ram is on the agenda for the next several days. Is *1 >7 SPEAKUP FINALIST— Allan M. Peters of r LLeesburg was the finalist in the Warsaw Jaycee speakup program conducted recently. He will enter the regional contest at Nappanee, March 9. The regional will be a three to five minute speech on one line of the Jaycee creed. A regional winner will compete in the state contest and a state winner in the national contest. Peters gave a critique on the % book "Up the Organization” by Robert Townsend. Gary Lyons of r 6 Warsaw was runner-up. There were about 14 members who participated in the contest. The speakup program helps members to speak before not only small groups, but also larger groups. The competition starts with an ice breaker, less than one minute on any topic they choose; the second speech, two minutes on topic of choice: third and final speech, three to five minutes on a subject. chosen from a list of topics, assigned to them.
